Really smart move. smh. Recruits will be banging down our door to get in.
Point is I do not want one and done freshmen . They cannot help us win a title and just take up playing time that could go to seniors who could make a run for us in March .
As Coach Jay Wright said you simply cannot win it with freshmen anymore. Perry is the type of freshmen we want l. He will be here four years .

Also I guess the 16 year old big guy because he has to stay in college two years .
But one and dones I am done with . Remember regardless of hype about half of them don’t pan out .
If you get a good jr college transfer you know exactly what you are getting . That’s where we shoukd recruit . No I would not make anyone other than freshmen agree to the two year deal.

Exactly, either recruit a couple dudes you are confident will return for a 2nd or 3rd year and 2 stud OAD, then fill the rest with older experience. Preferably ones with 2 years left but if we are gonna have a new team every year let’s get older at least.
Agree but I would limit it to one super one and done . Of the final four as you know the teams start 16 seniors and only One freshman. Why get used to two when that will reduce your odds of winning number 9

I saw McNeely play in person several games during the City of Palms classic this past December. I like his game! He hustles his butt off and at 212 lbs he was very effective at mixing it up in the trenches and he didn't shy away from contact like Edwards did. He played under control and was very effective at utilizing picks to take high percentage shots. He is not a "razzle dazzel, gee whiz" show boat but a smart heady player with high bb IQ.
McNeely will not be a typical freshman since he played for the #1 high school team in the country and played virtually every high school game against teams loaded with 4 and 5 star players that could beat many college teams. I would take him over many of the upper classmen that are in the portal. I hope we get him.
Yeah, he made the last second winning shot in the McAA game...east vs west. There was literally 3 seconds left and Boogie threw it in bounds to him and he barely touched the ball but made a 3 pointer. I just happened to tune in at the right time. I'm really tired of freshmen, but I gotta say that I was impressed with what little I saw...what very little I saw.

Built in excuse.
Right. That's the #1 issue with me lately. If you choose to build a team in a manner, then own it. You can't whine about youth when you seek it. They either produce or don't. Playing both ends...is pathetic and lazy. So when he's whining about them not being tough or handling adversity....you aren't going to get that grace period from fans nor should you. Roster can be built anyway you choose.

Also--I'm all for 1 and done guys if they are Derrick Rose, John Wall, AD, MKG (may not have been an NBA star but that guy was ready to handle CBB from jump), Noel, Fox, Monk, Bam, etc.....it's just to have to watch guys like Justin Edwards knowing he is gone? I mean why? What the hell is going to do in the NBA right now?

At some point you have to know what you are getting into and IMO Cal's best teams in his career were '12 UK (2 elite FR and a damn good one in Teague), Memphis in '08 where Rose was the stud--rest of team were vets. He's shown he can do it, but he seems to be on a mission to do something that he hopes recaptures the hardest road taken--'14 team.

Nobody recruits JUCO's anymore.
Very few kids have to go that route anymore due to academic restrictions being lowered.
When is the last time you seen a player declared academically ineligible or a freshman denied admission?

I’m told by a guy I know who is neck deep in following these high schoolers that McNeeley is a real baller that can really shoot it. He’s still a freshman though.
He’s a good player for sure. Normally I’d be all about him but r already will be relying on 50% freshman and who knows if we even have one returnee who played any minutes last year again. We need older players so bad.

Exactly but now he’s not concerned with winning just how many fringe guys he can get drafted. He’s dead set that his amount of NBA players be what defines him. Even though that shows how terrible a coach he is because of how many bad losses he’s piled up and how many chokes he’s had In the tourney.
