5-5 over our last 10 games will put us at 17-13 for the regular season. There was an earlier thought of still trying to schedule Rider and if not possibly play someone else as a game # 31. I guess that isn't happening.

Who the hell cares about the NIT???
Listen 2004 was great and fun at the time, but that tournament doesn’t matter . It really doesn’t matter when your best players are seniors
I disagree, for that exact reason. A tournament means more practice time for the young players, a tournament experience, and a chance for the coaches to get an extra game or two to try rotations for next year.

Remember after 2004 people thought that run meant something . Well, we stunk like hell the next season .
It will mean absolutely nothing for this team and be a slap in the face to fans who wanted this season to be good.

Yea, and that’s fair. That 04-05 team lost its 3 most productive bigs in Herve, Axani and a breaking out Adrian Hill who was lost to the year with an injury. This team should be more physical next season and I think scoring is more easily replaced than some intangible things. Remember when half the board lost their minds when Corey left? Guys step up

Why didn’t we make up that game? Another win would have been nice optics wise and maybe more bench playing time?

If we don't even make the NIT, the collapse would have been catastrophic. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that, but it could.
Right now we are no where close to getting an NIT bid. Carino tweeted out an NIT bracketokogist, and RU was not in his field.

Sad that we are begging to get on the NIT bubble. This is not the business Harper and geo came back to finish

Has an over .500 top-7 team in the Big Ten ever missed the NCAAs? If we go 5-5 down the stretch we’ll be:

16-13
(11-9)

overall record lame, wish the Rider game wasn’t cancelled.
Very rare. Even .500 in the league is almost a lock. We have that Lafayette loss hanging over their head.

So many of you frowned upon getting a bowl bid at 5-7. When the game finally happened some changed their mind. Sure I want the NCAA tourney but the likelihood is that is not happening. If somehow you make the NIT you absolutely play. Much better for recruiting then sitting home

I didn't know this was a question. Of course you play. Some posters either choose to be negative or haven't reset expectations after a very poor start to the season which have made the post season options that much more of a challenge.

The NCAA is still in play but if it happens to be the NIT, I'll still watch and be into it. Kind of similar to a lesser bowl game.

Win the big ten tourney

I don’t think that is as outrageous as it sounds. The team to fear most might be Illinois, maybe someone can upset them for us before having to play

Illinois and Purdue are the class of the league. Best hope is for Wisconsin or Michigan State to somehow steal the regular season title (or finish #2 and #3) and put Illinois and Purdue on the same side of the bracket.

The NIT went stupid

Years ago all we would need was a .500 record and we were in

We would almost fill the place if we made the final 4 at the garden
Now they want only the very best records

I bet the attendance never rivals what we bring.

If we are not in it, I always hope for two western teams, or two teams with a crappy following so very few go and the tourney suffers

Why should Rutgers or any other east coast team get favoritism?

The at Purdue game should reveal a lot before all of this
Are we really playing better overall at this moment, or are we Just a home team winner
If we get clobbered out there my optimism fades

Because they should like to fill up the garden for the final four. At least the old management did

If you wind up with 2 western teams in the final they probably draw flies instead of fans and the tourney looks sucky overall

In Olden times the NIT would feed us a couple of patsies at home to try to get us to the garden
That was smart of them, and the garden rocked if we got there.
Sure you invite all the best teams but I would always keep that bias for a local team also, Rutgers in particular

In-person attendance doesn't drive any of this stuff anymore.

I guess not since they have not wavered in allowing a local team with a near
.500 record
I still think it is a mistake by the NIT
I would be embarrassed if I was running it and you had 3,000 fans as the climax

NIT got bought by the NCAA in 2005, and has truly become the secondary "Not Invited Tournament" to have a postseason tourney for the teams that were close but didn't make the cut... rather than just trying to sell tickets by getting popular teams that could fill seats.

I’m talking about one or two at most local teams….. maybe just one
IMO it doesn’t cheapen the tourney at all
since they can invite all the best remaining out there
It’s just my opinion that will not change since I have seen the benefit of the old management way

Not believing that about RU and Carino.if we get 16-17 wins at worst we get an NIT bid. Now none of us want that outcome but an RU team in a top conference makes it. Doesn’t the Hall have a similar overall record at this point? Are they in the NIT bracketology.

This team can beat almost anyone on a given day and then look like the worst team in the country the next. That’s a mental toughness thing to me, since they are capable, but people don’t want to hear that because we’ve shown that we can be tough at times. Regardless, this team has enough trouble stringing two well played games in a row so that it will be virtually impossible to string 4 or 5 together. This team lacks veteran leadership from Geo and Harper, although we did get some from Mulcahy on Saturday.

Doesn't matter anymore. The NCAA owns the NIT and makes enough $$ from thE NCAA Tournament that MSG could be totally empty and it won't matter. The NIT invite the teams that earned bids, not local team who can bring fans.

It will also be hard for us to bring many fans this time around.

On the other hand, can see the Garden hoping for an RU v St.Johns Final Four.
