Ok. We showed a lot of toughness last night in that huge comeback vs Texas, but Florida is a different animal. I think this is our first loss of the season for a couple reasons. First guard play but second, the maturity. I think our freshmen get pushed in this one. It will be a lesson that pays off later but tomorrow, I think we get that first L. If we are to win, we've got to tighten up on defense and we'll need another monster from Grayson. But trust me, this ones gonna be hell.

Duval, Grayson and Trent need to have huge games. Bagley and Carter will dominate so we need to get the ball inside. If Florida is off from 3 we win but if they get hot like they been all year then I agree they lose. Should be another great test! I say Duke by 5.

I’m actually not worried about being pushed around. This is the kind of group who seems to fight back in that respect.

I am worried about the 3-point-line, though. If Florida shoots it well, then we’re going to have our hands full. It’s hard to go from not defending out there to being a stalwart in just two days. Do we go zone or man? There’s postives and negatives to both.

IMO, we need a patented Grayson performance, and it can’t wait until the second half. It has to start early. I like our size in this one too. We have to exploit that. Let Marvin, Wendell and even Marquis get those touches down there. Florida will start four guards and try to exploit that, we need to combat.

This is another really good test early for our young team.

I’m with @dukiejay here. The shooting has to be top notch tomorrow. I’m glad we get a day in between.

Alex, Grayson and Gary don’t have to go 8-8 from three each for us to win, but we need big shots in big spots. A.K.A. to stop or start runs, to match a shot they make here or there, and to extend leads. If our bigs could hit more free throws, we’d almost have the three point affect from the inside, but we can’t totally count on that yet.

Florida has similar athletes to Texas, but they’ll be better shooters and Chris Chiozza is a very mature point guard who will test Tre. If Tre can win that matchup early, it’ll be great for Duke to get rolling.

This matchup reminds me of our recent games against Unc.A great perimeter team vs a powerful inside oriented team. For us to win Grayson and Trent need to come out of their shooting slump.Agree with Show think this will be our first loss.

3 point shooting can change a game more than anything, other than maybe foul trouble. Florida can flat out shoot the 3, but as we know the 3 ball can be fickle too.
Tomorrow is the 3rd game in 4 days, and I have to think that could certainly have an effect on 3 point shooting.

Again, Florida is really good, but it took 2 overtimes, 17 three's (at just a hair below a 50% clip) to subdue the Zags. And the Zags had their chances.
Maybe the Gators rain 3's on us and win going away, but I don't think so. I actually like Duke more in this game than the Texas game.

Oh, and the way Florida swings the ball around constantly on the perimeter...I could see a few deflections going back the other way for points...especially by Trevon.
Duke is very young, but they are a tough, and confident group. Duke for the win.

Duke has to body up on the rebounds on 3 pt. shots. Those long rebounds can lead to fast breaks if Duke boxes out or uncontested follow up 3s if they don't. I think that's a key against a 3 pt. shooting team.

I have a feeling tomorrow (along with every game this year) comes down the free throw shooting... we need to start hitting these more consistently... this team is going to go the line early and often, need to knock them down

I want Trevon to attack the rim more in this one. I think Bagley's confidence is burning like an inferno now. He's gonna be great in this one. Still, Think Florida edges us in this one, pray I'm wrong.

Now that is what I'm afraid of more than anything. Florida is a very good ft shooting team, and we're not...other than Grayson & Trent. We have to make some fts.

I watched all of that double O.T. game. Florida can shoot it, and they are very active. Last night, they played with a lot of confidence. It's going to be a tough game as everyone has said. I think we can definitely win it, but not of we get down big. We have to be in this one all the way. Hopefully they will have some hangover from that late double O.T. Game. A lot of times teams come out flat after a thriller like that. Problem is, we were in a thriller that same day! I don't believe by any stretch that we go undefeated, so will this be our first loss? IDK.....but they have their hands just as full as we do. Containing Chiozza will be huge, and we need someone who can keep Hudson honest. Should be a very entertaining game.

Yep, Show, the Zags were able to get some good penetration on the Gators, and I believe that Trevon can do the same. He has to attack, attack, and attack some more.
I hope you're wrong too!:)

Last night was a tale of 2 halves. And if we come out tomorrow night playing passive and timid like we did early last night we’ll find ourselves in an insurmountable hole. If we come out like we did in the second half last night and compete on both sides for 40 minutes we’ll win going away.

This team is far and away more talented than any other team in the country. But when we go through the motions on defense we give up open looks and easy buckets every time down the court. This is no longer high school or AAU where being bigger and more athletic covers up sluggish defensive effort. When we go 100% we are still going to make mistakes but we are also going to make a bunch of plays and force our opponents to make errors as well. I’m fine living with the growing pains as long as we play tough and play at 100% on both sides. That is where growth will occur.

Can we get some mid range shots for Trent to get his confidence going? Duke needs to run some pin down screens for Trent and let him get the ball 15-18 foot away from the rim and pull up. Also would like to see more high pick and roll with Bagley and Duval.

"Locked into a zone because Krzyzewski doubts his young team's grasp of a man-to-man scheme, Duke surrendered a 50 percent clip from the 3-point line in the first half against Portland State on Thursday before it fell into a 16-point hole in the second half Friday against a Texas team that made only four 3-pointers all night."

I'm worried about our poor D and the 3. We got waxed the first half and that was in light of many missed open-look 3s (they had like 16 to our 6 or something at the half). Being physical and aggressive is the key to a victory, and as others have said, Trevon will be critical to that end.

That said, I was at the game yesterday and the vibe was really awesome-- the Duke turnout was solid, as was the Zags faithful. And that dunk by Roach... I think Duke fans were just as vocal when he posterized Javin-- the place erupted. Great player and effort by a really good, athletic Texas team.

Maybe Javin and Alex get some more time playing the wings on D. Both were really key in our zone D against MSU. IN man, Tre needs to pressure that ball and let our length get steals in the passing lanes. ANd, I'll say it for the hundredth time, force them to spend their energy playing D against. If we take our time on O, they are forced to spend a ton of energy chasing our guards and banging down low with our bigs. That is to our advantage. If we shoot early, they foul less, we score less, and we spend all of our energy chasing them around the 3 pt line while we get in foul trouble..

Florida is a good shooting team so playing a man to man defense would be ideal but our team isn’t very good at man to man right now. It will be a challenge playing zone against Florida, but Florida doesn’t have a big man inside that can compare to Bagley or Carter, or even Bolden, so that’s where Duke has the major advantage.

We have to come out and actually show some fight in the first half. We have to communicate on defense. We have to play unselfish. Grayson has to be Grayson. We have to feed to post.

Maybe not ALL these things to get the W, but these are all things we have definitely struggled with the last 4 games. Portland St. lost themselves the game, imo. Texas did as well. Don't get me wrong, we finally showed up and showed some toughness towards the end of both those games, but we were definitely helped by both of those opposing teams. Just my two cents.

First our guards must stay out of foul trouble. Trevon has to attack the rim and take better care of the ball. Need a great shooting performance from Greyson, Gary and Alex. Alex will need more burn to rest the other three guards. I’d like to see Grayson run the point from time to time, just to settle everyone into the rhythm that we get away from with Tre. No problem with our bigs, they are playing better that expected and I speak of all four.

In the end it will be a hard fought contest, where we continue to grow as a team. With Greyson’s leadership, I believe we’ll triumph in the end and return to Durham a better, more competent squad.

I actually sort of feel the opposite. I'd like to see Trevon focus on pushing in transition with the intent to find Grayson or other teammates and running our team. He has solid finishing ability in traffic, but was a little reckless & turnover prone during much of the Texas game. If it results in buckets, then sure, I'd love for him to attack. But his focus on getting everyone going and letting his offense follow IMO was more instrumental in our team's success prior to and vs. MSU especially. JMO

I think we will be just fine against Florida. We have the size advantage and we will feed the post. Bagley and Carter should combine for 50 points and 25 rebounds easily. We just have to slow the pace down against them and we will get them in foul trouble. The big men should lead us to this victory.

This shall create a divided family during the holidays. My parents met at UF and one of my sisters went there. I grew up as, and continue to be, a Gator football fan. I even sent in a housing deposit there when I got deferred for my early application to Duke.

That said, I'll be rooting for us, haha.

Also, when K eventually retires, I hope White gets a serious look.

I want Bagley to stop looking for 3's and also quit taking the ball so far outside before beginning his penetration.
I would like to see Bagley quit attempting to out size equal size opponents around the basket. We know he's not used to equal sized players like Texas had though.

Grayson needs to be good from the start. They will have no answer for Bagley and Carter, so if Grayson comes out connecting, I like our chances. Our guards have their work cut out. Have to defend the 3, they won't shoot it as bad as Texas. We have to close off all those open lanes our d is allowing.
I like our chances if Grayson goes for at least 20 and Duval plays under control. He needs to distribute more.

This is like when the Gamecocks beat us last year. I was still rooting for Duke despite lifelong Gamecock football fandom and some interest in Gamecock basketball. I figured I’d at least enjoy the Gamecock run, but no. I was pissed for a week or so.

I would think we are up for the task unless our guards are cold from the outside and UF is really hot but the most important shooting will need to come from Grayson. If Grayson is on we are ok, if not we'll struggle again.

Sorry Florida.

It's the end of a long trip for this young Duke team and with the last four games I'm sure today consisted of a lot of film showing on where this team is allowing themselves to show weaknesses.

I think Duke tightens up everything a little better. Grayson plays to his potential and Trent Jr is hitting from the outside allowing Carter and Bagley to do damage inside.

I like Florida but this young Duke team will be hungry especially after pulling out that overtime win.

I think Grayson explodes tomorrow and Bagley wins MVP. Tre has to stop gambling on outlet passes when he is the last line of defense. He came away with a big steal in the 2nd half after attempting that steal multiple times given up open layups.... I would like to see Carter get more touches on the opposite block he sometimes gets lost in the play calling but able to rebound offensively... I really like the energy Alex brings off the bench he seems to have that Grayson "It " factor he had his freshman year.... Hoping to see some more Javin this game he brings great pressure on defense when needed....

Duke vs Florida should be a good one but I believe coaching and size wins out in this game Duke by 7

I'm scared, Florida is pretty good offensively, we really cannot afford a slow start against them. Trevon needs to realize he's a PG and start playing team ball. We need to see some defensive effort for 40 minutes (or longer).

I think it will be another nail biter. Hopefully we win, but even if we lose this weekend has been a great experience for our young team.
