We'd need to break out the Muppet version
for obvious reasons

(the obvious reason being the stadium is so close to the poultry sci. building)

Thats up to you. I don’t feel bad for you feeling bad. I’m just speaking on behalf of how I feel and tried to stay on topic.

What have you brought to this thread, in regards to the OP’s question, other than suggesting that you may need a safe space?

I brought my vote to this thread which is what the OP asked for, not you responding to every post with your opinion...which you obviously feel carries more weight than everyone else's.

I'm sorry you had a divorce. I can imagine how bad that is and I'm sure you don't want reminders of it. Hopefully it worked out for you.

We didn't marry Dan. We hired him to do a job. He did the job. We paid him for his service. He left to go do another job somewhere else. No big deal.

He doesn't get to take everything with him to Florida. The bowl game trophies stay here with us. The stadium expansion stays with us. Dak stays with us. The #1 ranking stays with us.

The cool end of 3Q tradition stays with us as well. Some people don't like the song. That's cool, just go take a piss and get back for 4Q. It's really not a big deal.

In all seriousness, who cares if it's Mullen's? He didn't choose it as a song for himself. If he was responsible for it, he did it on behalf of all of Bulldog nation. Are we also going to give up bowl games, 9 win seasons, decent QB play, NFL draft picks, stadium expansions, facility upgrades, and prime time football games? Those are all things associated with Dan Mullen that did NOT exist regularly before he got here.

Someone said it earlier, but a lot of people (looking at you Lettuce) come off as extremely butt-hurt because Mullen left. Appreciate what he did for the program. He elevated us and gave us something to cheer and be hopeful about. Something we hadn't had consistently in the history of our program. Don't get me wrong, I want to beat his *** and bury them on September 29th, but not because he did anything to hurt us, rather I want him to know what he left behind and get a W in conference play. He was ours, but he isn't anymore. I don't like him going forward, but i don't have to hate him because i know there was absolutely no better person for our job the last 9 years.

One other thing, can some of you 17ers quit making up dumb 17'ing names to reference Mullen? For 17's sake, it's like being around a bunch of 17'ing children. We're going to be good this year. Let's 17'ing focus on that. Jesus, July brings out the dumb 17ery in some of you.

The commercial dispatch was quoting the MSU marketing department. That isn't Dan "taking credit for it", that is our marketing department giving him credit for it. Of course, marketing departments have been known to fudge the facts from time to time to market their products, but now you are choosing Steve over the Athletic Department. And all you quoted Steve as saying was that some fan was suggesting we play a song before the 4th quarter, which is not even an original idea.

There is no question that our Athletic Department was on board with the story that Dan picked the song. So, without some real evidence I'm going to stick with the story that Dan was involved. .

If you don't know the answer to that, you either aren't coming to games or don't pay attention to the music in the first place. So why do you care?

Well, you seem like a nice person. I care because I'm a fan, so I care what goes on. I'm not obligated to explain to you why I care. The reason I asked is because I wasn't able to come to any games last year, so I wondered if something had changed in the past year. I work in healthcare, so I'm required to work every other weekend. Coming to football games is not always feasible.

Traditions happen spontaneously- that's why having people vote for some other song isn't going to work or have the same effect. Just like Scott Stricklin's Cowbell Viking Chant or whatever that was two years ago. Not a bad idea in and of itself in my opinion but it didn't come off because it was kind of planned and sort of forced.

I actually liked the cowbell viking thing. We gave up on it too early.

It's much better than the maroon/white cheer during the pregame. Talk about forced. The fans do a pretty good job of breaking out into that cheer during the course of a game.

Now that this thread has hit it's third page it's quite obvious than the only way to settle this is a Rumble on South Farm.We need to set some ground rules like " no eye gouging" and " no kicks to the man berries" but first we have to settle on the background music. No Rumble is complete without a soundtrack.

I'm sorry if I came across as mean, but I don't think someone who isn't affected by something should tell people that are what to do. However, if you come to games when you can and just haven't made it to any in a while, that doesn't apply to you. Nothing changed last year as far as those two songs go, fyi.

I disagree with you about Bad to the Bone. Bully has been coming out to that for my entire life (that I can remember at least).

We might. It kind of remains to be seen.

We did it a number of times. Tbh, I can't remember not doing it. I'm pretty sure we did it against Bama, but don't think we did against OM because of all the senior day activities.

We didn't do it at all last year, not that I remember, anyway. We made it part of the pregame the year before, but stopped doing it late in the year.

Thunderstruck is the best song DWS offers

I love Thunderstruck, but the problem with Thunderstruck at a sports venue is the intro is TOO. DAMN. LONG. The first verse starts a minute-ten into the song. The first time he says "Thunderstruck" is almost two minutes in. The chorus doesn't come until about 2:50. It's just too long to fit in a commercial break.

It always felt forced, let it go with Mullen to Flurda.

If we insist on playing a song at that point in the game make damn sure it is something that gets everybody fired up.

on the Boneyard Steve said Dan took credit for it in an interview, but it actually wasn't him. The dude who wrote emails to the athletic dept. is the real genius behind this.

I have no problem with it but there are times it should stay in the drawer. Blow out non conference games being one.

The only people I have ever heard complain about this have been on this message board or twitter. I have never talked to someone in real life that actually was against it. Just not sure why there is so much internet vitriol for a tradition that was so widely accepted and so obviously enjoyed.

And message boards have this collective mental illness that cannot grasp why the rest of the world doesn’t understand that everyone else doesn’t sit around listening to the Butthole surfers last cd while sipping on a cows liver IPA.

Dear gawd how can we allow people to act so uncool?

This pretty much mirrors EVERY poll I have seen. A vocal 1/3 minority is running around making a big deal of this when a 2/3 majority like it. People don't realize how hard it is to get fans to do something. Hell, it took six years before we got the <fanfare> M <fanfare> S <fanfare> U <fanfare> M - S - U! cheer halfway decent and it's still only halfway decent. If you don't like DSB then go take a piss before the 4th quarter. They play several songs I don't care for but a lot of people seem to enjoy them and have fun so good on them! I don't understand people's need to control everything.

I am for it. I think it gives us an identity. How many times has announcers discussed the crowd participation right after a break, when the television comes back from commercial and the song is still playing with the crowd, singing, ringing bells and the cellphone lights shining down on the field.

I love the song, but if we replace the song then with something else then I will be okay with. Like stated earlier it beat the hell out of hearing about Ford, Buick, Mercury, Nissan, Honda, Toyota dealership in downtown Louisville.

Dump it and let the Famous Maroon Band play that "rousing rendition of Madelineeeeee" while fans burn the last couple minutes of their cell batteries up waving them
