Let's play a game...

We played this last year at the bye, so thought I would bring it back. Just a fun time waster or conversation starter.

% chance this person will be with MSU a year from today?

Your only choices are 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% & 100% and you can only use each choice once.

So someone must be 0% & someone must be 100%.

Dan Mullen -
Manny Diaz -
Bear Wilson -
Chris Jones -
Fitzgerald/Staley/Williams -

Treat the back-up quarterbacks as a single unit. Chances they ALL stay.

Here's a link to last year's game.

Interesting to look back and see how confident people were that Robinson would stay and Dak would be gone.

Like your game but the bit about only using each percentage once kinda doesn't make any sense to me. There is no way one can predict with any meaningful accuracy base on the rules. It actually makes more sense to predict simply stay or leave. I think manny & mullen both stay. I think bear & chris leave and no way all three QBs return.

Williams is gone no matter what. No other reason for him to redshirt than to transfer to a lower division and have two years to play. Derunnya is gone, but may try to play his way into the first round next year. That is pretty much impossible. I don't think it is a foregone conclusion with Chris. He has been a huge disappointment this year. Losing major draft stock.

Dan Mullen - 100% - I'll probably get bit on this one, but I think if someone else really wanted him, he would have been gone after last season
Manny Diaz - 75% - Must be lower than Mullen's chance, but he isn't tearing it up on defense like 2010
Bear Wilson - 50% - Good chance he goes pro, but less than Jones
Chris Jones - 0% - Most likely to leave early
Fitzgerald/Staley/Williams - 25% - I know Williams is RS this year, but I predict he transfers after this year. I wish him the best.

Williams can stay right where he is and get a masters degree...And possibly contribute.
No Sundays for him.

The game is invalid. They could all be 100%, they could all be 0% or anywhere in between. But I'll go with:
Mullen - 100%
Diaz - 75%
Wilson - 25%
Jones - 50%
Fitzgerald/Staley/Williams - 0%

Here's mine:

Mullen 75
Diaz 100
Jones 50
Wilson 25
QB 0

Just don't think we can keep both Staley and Fitzgerald. If either gets a firm grasp on it, then the other will bolt so they can play somewhere. I have no idea what Williams will do. I think Bear could look at breaking in a new QB his senior season and think, "Nah I'm good." I put Diaz at 100 because I don't think he can bounce around so much if he has hopes of a HC gig.

Miami may have a hard time convincing a good candidate to take that job. Somebody with baggage like Butch Davis may want a re-run

Butch has already said he's interested in the job. That's about the level of candidate they're going to attract.

Dan Mullen - 100%

Manny Diaz
- 75% (don't think Mullen would have taken him back without a legit two-year commitment)

Bear Wilson
- 25% (I'd probably put this around 5-10%; he should grade out high, but at the same time he is still new enough to the game that he could continue to make pretty big steps in teh college game)

Chris Jones - 0% (I'd probably put this around 5%; I think some of people's disappointment is a result of our scheme more than any lack of motor by Chris, although there's probably room for improvement there; his measurables will get him a good grade and it's probably not going to get much better by coming back).

Fitzgerald/Staley/Williams - 50% (I would put this around 15%. I expect Williams to leave, but I could also see him enjoying being at state and getting a masters, either as a scholarship player or as a grad assistant depending on numbers and QBs signed)

Should grade high? Here are my grades:

Size = A
Speed = C+
Route Running = C-
Hands = B-
Blocking = B+
Awareness = C

Mullen and Diaz both stay.

Jones and Bear both leave early.

I think Staley goes and both Nick and Williams stay. Damien is a "program first" kind of guy.

Bear is a beast of a blocking WR. Just about every time he puts his hands on a CB they are getting dust-rolled.

I agree, but you don't leave early for the NFL if your main attribute is blocking.

I don't know, but I think you're being a little unrealistic about what NFL teams will require for him to get drafted in an early round. He's got good size and strength and has shown the ability to make plays in traffic. He's got good enough speed taking into account his size. He may lack some consistency with his hands, but he has shown he has the ability to make catches with his hands. I'm guessing that outside of speed, he will get the benefit of the doubt on any perceived weaknesses because he only played one year of high school ball and has shown so much improvement over his three years at MSU.

I agree that it's more than likely that he leaves, as his "people" will tell him about us possibly emphasizing the run more next year with Fitz. I just don't see him being an early round pick next year. I'm thinking 5th - not drafted.

Bear certainly may go pro early, but if he stays, he will most definitely have the chance to improve his game and be on the receiving end of a lot of passes. Fitzgerald is more likely to throw the deep ball to #1 than Dak is.

Chris Jones - he probably leaves, but he most definitely has lost money this year. He should stay to improve his stock. He will get drafted, but in what round? If he came back strong next year he could go in the first two rounds.

Staley and Fitz will both be here next fall. They will both play a lot for State in 2016. Damien is the guy who may as well transfer out to get two years as a starter somewhere else.

I wanted to put Bear @ 0%, but within the game's parameters I see all 3 QBs returning as less probable. Fun exercise & one I can see HD6 getting behind.**

Also, interesting the amount of 0%'s Collins got in last year's thread.

He'll get an unbiased opinion before he has to commit to the draft. And I bet that opinion won't be 5th round - not drafted.

I am certainly not an NFL guy but him getting a 'not drafted' grade seems crazy.

Dan Mullen - 75% (I think he stays, but I can only use 100% once)
Manny Diaz - 100% (No way Dan took him back without a rock solid commitment and I think he isn't far enough away from the Texas debacle to get a good HC job)
Bear Wilson - 25% (If he does go pro I think it is a mistake, another year and he could seriously improve his stock)
Chris Jones - 0%
Fitzgerald/Staley/Williams - 50% (I understand that Damien was injured when he and Dak got jumped on Spring Break and that is why he isn't playing. I think he will stay and compete. Then again, someone usually leaves in this situation so it's a coin flip)

Manny Diaz - 100% - He signed that 2 year contract and will be here to prove something. no one and done again. plus the yardage will turn away a lot of guys.
Bear Wilson - 0% - gone
Chris Jones - 25% - probably gone but lets all be honest and say this hasnt been the year he thought he'd have.

Seems like a 'win-win' situation. Would love to see him come back for one more year .. if he does go, he will make us proud.
