The NIT Championship is worth more in my opinion than a first-round exit in the NCAA tourney.
1.You get a trophy that goes in the trophy case that lasts forever.
2.Your name goes down in the record book as a championship team.
3. You may even get a ring but I'm not sure on that one.

Considering WKU is better than 25 of the 32 auto qualifiers to the NCAA tournament, yeah, an NIT banner would mean a whole lot. People were complaining that OSU got left out, and we just beat them AT HOME. That doesn't happen often at Hank Iba arena. And you can't say that OSU mailed it in...it mattered to them.

The Toppers beat Purdue and SMU (when they were Top 25 before the injuries) and played Villanova to an 8 point game early in the season when WKU only had 7 players available. Had they made the NCAA tournament, many teams wouldn’t have wanted to see them in their bracket.

As a WKU alum, this is the biggest win in the post-season since Drake. I thought this team could make a run but to beat ACC, PAC-12, and Big 12 teams (and two of them on the road) is something that I couldn't fathom. I need to get my season tickets for next year locked in ASAP!
I graduate in May from WKU! Definitely a nice run and will definitely help with recruiting

WKU grad here. Proud of the Tops. They're a solid squad. Don't care for Stansbury, but he can coach.

Congrats to the Toppers. I think I saw they play Utah in the quarters.
Smh....I bet longtime fans of the Utes are worn out with seeing a team with the word Kentucky in the name as the last game of their season

would nit championship/runner-up be better than 1st or second round ncaa loss for a school like wku?

I like to see a team, not all SRs win the NIT, and then take that as momentum into a good year the following season. I don't think MSU loses much/any. Not sure about WKU.

Would be interesting to see Stansbury coach against his old team in the NIT championship.

"It’s a safe bet that someone out there somewhere may tune into ESPN at 6 p.m. CDT Tuesday to watch Western Kentucky face Utah (22-11) in the semifinals of the National Invitational Tournament in New York City."
