Do you think Monk could have chased down McGee all game like Herro? I loved Monk, but towards the end, he wasn't hitting like earlier in the year. Herro keeps getting better and can get to the basket better than Monk and is a way better FT shooter. I give the edge to Herro. Herro ran his butt off Saturday and he always does, never stops moving and his offense suffered for it in a battle with McGee and them trying to stop each other. Herro's 3 late sealed the game not to mention his FTs at the end. I agree with most of you except on Monk over Herro. Also, Herro isn't done. He has had games where he was dam near perfect and the difference in the game and he very well could again.

Yeah, herro’s defense and rebounding gives him the edge over monk for me, not to mention his 94% ft shooting.

I could certainly be persuaded to take Monk over Herro, but Herro has become an incredible shot maker as the year has gone on, and he's the bigger-better defender. Even when Herro isn't making baskets, he's still doing a lot for us. Can't really say the same about Monk.

I struggled with Reid vs. Bam, but ultimately, Reid's ability to score with his back to the basket won out for me. There were times when we really labored for a basket in 17, and throwing it into Bam and asking him to make a move and go get one…..wasn't going to happen.
I must remember the '17 team a lot different. Bam averaged 13 and 8 with UK and shot 60% from the field. Scored almost 500 points in one year and over 300 rebounds while taking about 8 shots a game.

So you think Herro could guard Monk and shut him down? Wow. I must have dreamed those games where Cal had to pull Herro because his guy was killing UK.

You can post what you want, but this thread was started to discuss us and not just another bias bitching thread. Some can't help themselves

It was a half-hearted jest. The title of the thread was comparing 2017 and 2019. I did just that. Perhaps I should have made that more obvious. Doesn't change the fact that what I wrote is absolutely true though. Lol

I also followed up the overall tourney comparison with my opinion of the two teams.

Fox over Hagans
Monk = Herro
Keldon over Briscoe
PJ over Willis
Bam over Reid

Bench is a push.

That is about right. I'm convincable on Monk and Herro either way and the same goes for the benches though I'm a bit more inclined to side with this year there because of the usable size but it is close.

Fox >>>> Hagans, and that’s no knock on Hagans. The kid is good. Fox was a special talent and the biggest difference in the two teams. This team wins a title if Fox is PG.

Monk > Herro, although the gap has closed significantly. Tyler has improved dramatically and plays way harder.

Keldon > Briscoe, it’s way closer than people think though. Briscoe could really defend.

PJ >> Willis, again not close here. Not as wide a gap as Hagans/ Fox but PJ makes this team comparable to 2017.

Reid = Bam, Bam has higher upside due to athleticism but Reid makes all the little winning plays. Really depends on the matchup which is rather have.

Fox >>>>>Hagans
Reid>Bam (just slightly, experience IQ)
Herro, Monk...push, maybe justt slightly to Herro (seems to have a little more leadership and "heart")
Keldon>>>>>>Briscoe
PJ>>>Willis

so, there. DONE...should be a FF team

Maybe I missed it, but I don't remember the '17 team being waxed by 34 points. They beat UNC, beat Michigan St, lost to KU and UCLA, but later beat UCLA in the tourney, Won the SEC regular season and Tourney. Virtually had no bench. Wenyen would have an occasional game. Hawkins was really good off the bench.

They were great, I loved that team. One difference is that team is in the books and this one is still playing. I still believe in this team with or without PJ. So if this team gets to the FF would you say they are better? Because the path is no cakewalk.

Bam was an absolute stud, but being just 18 and pretty raw....had some limitations. Reid makes all the right plays, and while he isn’t an above the rim shot blocker, he certainly anchors the paint for us. Reid has been really really good this year. I think a lot of UK fans take Reid for granted.

That would certainly change the conversation some. If they get to a FF without PJ, that means some others players have really stepped up which would be great.

I agree on all of that. Reid saved UK's hide more than once this year.

Just saw Herro is 7 points short of becoming the 14th Freshman at Kentucky to score 500 points. Not too bad. Considering he doesn't shoot a ton.

We still have to see who we play before you can determine are chances of advancing and how they compare to past teams.

He's actually taken the mist shots on the team and he's taken more shots than Anthony Davis did. I'm not sure if you heard but AD took the 4th most shots in 2012.

The '17 team made it further in the tournament than the '19 team will. UK's season ends Friday night if Washington doesn't play. And It looks doubtful to me. Even if he plays he will probably not be as effective after the layoff.

I like our chances even if PJ doesn't play. We have the advantage on the front court and we have more weapons in the back court.

I believe we make it to the Elite Eight, just like the '17 team.

Yeah, but are you following and reading the thread? People are comparing him and Monk. Monk took over 100 more 3s than Herro. So it depends on who you're looking at. People in this thread have gone back and forth between Herro and Monk, not AD. The title of the thread is 17 vs 19, not 2012 LOL.

If we had landed Mile Bridges with that group, that 17 team would’ve been unstoppable.

This team healthy is better . I mean I would take 4 out of the 5 starters on this team over the other team. Only Fox would start IMO. Bam is a beast but with Travis' experience he gets the nod. I thinkt he bench in 17 was a little better though but none the less 19 team gets my vote.

I like the 2019 team better. KJ over Biscoe, PJ over Willis.

Monk could be great, but in college, I like Herro just as much. Reid Travis offers as much as Bam at this point.

I like the 2019 bench better too.

No way in hell would I pick Herro over Monk.
Open discussion still as we are still playing, but I hope some of you see it's at least very close and I will log that tonight as another point for Herro with the biggest shot of the season. I'm still sticking with Herro slight edge over Monk like earlier in this thread.

Looking at it now that the season is over, 2017 is superior to 2019. That team could've easily won a title in 2019. I can't see them losing to Auburn.
