It makes you wonder if Lemons has an eye for real talent. I’m dead serious. Where’s he coached aside from being an assistant at Louisville? Indiana? The Citadel? He bragged about pitchers looking like unicorns all preseason and to him maybe they were because he hasn’t been around much in comparison. Magnum led the 19 team to Omaha. All Lemonis had to do was sit back and watch. I’m not sold that he knows this league enough and what it takes.

I’ve been saying this for two years......

And the majority of the people on this board jumped on me. Our athletic director hired a mid tier Big 10 coach to take over this program!! Still too early and I want Lemonhead to succeed, but it is now apparent as to why I was hesitant!

There is no way to judge him as a recruiter. The cycle is just too long. He was the recruiting head at Louisville. But hitter development is concerning when you look at the start of 20 and this season.

If they didn’t come out of high schoolwork good habits hitting the baseball, it is hard to change bad habits. I would take our trips to Omaha over anyone except LSU, Florida, Vandy, South Carolina, Alabama and Georgia. Why? Because everyone of those programs won CWS during at least 2 of their trips. So as good as our Baseball history has been and you sure can’t win the CWS if you don’t go, there has ALWAYS been a piece to the puzzle missing when State went. Heck Pepperdine, Fresno, Fullerton, Wichita State, Coastal Carolina and Minnesota have more CWS Championships than us.**** Except for 2013, there is always that one piece of being a Championship Program missing. Maybe we should spend more on players and less on stadiums.****

Also, Alabama has never won the CWS and GA only won it once.

You have not gotten many opportunities to pile on Lemonis and thump your chest that you’ve been right all along. Enjoy it while it last.

We do need more offensive threats that know situational hitting, timely hitting and more that can hit HRs at anytime. Still with that, our pitching cannot give up 8 runs a game on the weekends and expect to win. Our starting pitching needs to get better very quickly!

Lemonis’ plan is to recruit big powerfully built kids for the corners (3B, 1B, LF, RF) and taller rangy kids for the middle (SS, 2B, CF). This is the major league model. I don’ remember where I read this but it was from an interview. Off of the top of my head, the kid from Columbus and the kid that we flipped from Auburn are those type players.

We need to keep in mind that the vast majority of SEC talent level kids commit when they are 10th graders and some 9th graders. That means that we, along with Lemonis are going to have to weather the results of our previous coaching turnover.

Exactly. With COVID and the long cycle, we haven’t even really gotten to his recruits yet. This year’s freshmen are still a ton of Cannizarro recruits, and maybe even a few that originally committed to Cohen.

Its really hard to tell because we have had so many coaches but Sims committed to Cann. I think Bednar did too.

Biggest problem is not recruiting them, its getting them to school.

This all day long. Apparently we just don't have the "allure" (however that is defined) to sign projected high draft picks and actually convince them to play for us instead of the pros. Only recent exception being Ginn, and that didn't really pan out for us. I just wonder how Vandy got Rocker and Leiter to show up.

Other than Tanner Allen who is a Cannizarro recruit?

I believe Macleod, Cerantola, Brandon Smith, and Hancock all were as well. If they weren’t Canni guys they would have been Cohen guys. They were in the class of 2018.

Even with guys that Lemonis himself signed in 2019 and 2020, there were holdovers from guys originally committed to Cohen / Canni. Don’t know if you can even fully call those his guys even though he signed them.

And Ginn was another pitcher. We've actually fared reasonably well getting pitchers to campus but every hitter/position player that could have been a difference maker for us have all gone for the pros.
