Lance was never coming here. Would have been very supportive of him personally, just wasn’t gonna happen.

BUT it was already reported earlier that Kansas offered him an extension but that he declined to sign it until after the season was over which seemed to indicate he was in play for another job. SO is that still the case OR did he now relent and finally signed it? If he actually signed it now, probably means the offer he was looking for never materialized. Or it just could be the old news being reported again and he has an extension offer but hasn't signed it yet. I'd want to see a newspaper article indicating that he accepted it.

UPDATE: OK, multiple sources now say he actually signed it. So he was holding out for a better offer when he deferred signing it before OR an offer from a new school didn't materialize as he had hoped.

Kansas 247sports says Leipold said no to Nebraska late last week.
OR maybe that is spin by his agent and Nebraska told him he now was out of the running if Nebraska came to terms with the first choice. It's hard to believe anything being reported because there are so many reasons for somebody to spin things. No coach ever wants to say he was rejected or turned down for a job. It's always THEY turned down the job to save face regardless of the actual situation.

I think this cat is a hell of a coach. Good for the Jayhawks. Maybe he gets them competitive

He said no to Nebraska a while ago

Edit: I was using a figure of speech. I was told by a solid source a month ago it wasn’t gonna happen

And you know he was offered how? LL has been nothing but twitter and message boards noise.
I don’t think Leipold was offered at all because he wasn’t interested in NU. “He said no to Nebraska a while ago” = Leipold was never coming to NU.

Doesn’t mean we made him an offer. It means he told the search firm he wasn’t interested. The way it works is the headhunter makes the contact and gives a potential range of salary then asks if you’re interested. That is NOT an offer of employment. That’s an inquiry to gauge interest.

That’s what I was trying to say with my “He said no to Nebraska a while ago” comment. I’m not trying to sound pompous - Leipold wasn’t interested in NU.

He doesn't know and neither does anyone on this board.
I’ve held the stance that Leipold was not coming to NU in several other threads the past week.

I don't believe this. I don't believe Trev made much, if any contact, with Leipold until very recently, and even then, maybe made a lowball offer and Kansas had a more attractive contract structure. Again, for those who love to hate on Leipold for some reason, I'd love to see your reaction when we end up hiring Monken.

Not hating on Leipold. just passing along what I know to be true. And as I’ve stated numerous times in other threads, I would 100% support Leipold if hired at NU. FWIW, had a solid source with my info that he’s has never really had a lot of interest in NU.

If Monken is hired, it wouldn’t surprise me. It would be an underwhelming hire to me. I always go back to what Trev Alberts said in the Frost firing presser. It’s likely not going to be a “home run” flashy hire.

Was he offered?
I actually agree with what Dingle said. The closest thing that probably happened was the CSA search firm sending out feelers to Leipold’s camp. What I was really trying to say was that the ship sailed long before this coaching search.

The fact of the matter is that Alberts could literally text Lance if he wanted, but he can’t do that in-season because of legalese.

Leipold hasn’t exactly coached in high pressure situations….ever.
