I may be alone in this opinion, but I am concerned about Arnett as DC. Yeah, he did a good job for us for three years. But Leach was helping him out a lot by running a ball control offense, the exact opposite of Lebby.

The only other data points we have pn Arnett was our defense taking a major step backwards when he became HC. And that he like the boconater.

I think we'll end up with a Charles Huff type - G6 head coach looking to move into the P4. I don't think we have the juice to hire a sitting P4 coach, and I hope we don't hire a washed up coach like Brian Kelly or Jimbo. Although I think Mike Gundy would be a good fit, his relationship with NIL is terrible. Maybe Selmon will shock us and actually open up the checkbook and persuade Dave Doeren to move to the SEC.

Here's who ChatGPT recommended (after I repeatedly told it not to give me coaches like Alex Golesh, Sumrall, etc. or assistants):

  • Jeff Traylor
  • G. J. Kinne
  • Charles Huff
  • Spencer Danielson
when you hire junior high coaches like Arnett and Lebby but turn your nose up at Brian Kelly and Jeff Gundy ? Reminds me of the super smart fans who said HOFer Mike Leach wasn’t any good and held Weekly polls to fire him during a 9-4 season.

For the “we improved talent” crowd, I don’t follow this stuff closely, but I felt like after the portal I just felt “we completed failed on improving our OL”. Then we lost our LT. we were high on some of our OL portal guys in the last couple years, but they didn’t pan out, and I don’t even remember hearing anything positive at that position during the last recruitment cycle. I just remember our LT pipe dream didn’t work out then our backup plan didn’t have eligiblity

I didn't hire Lebby and I wouldn't have hired him if it was my choice, so you're not talking about me.

I would not have hired Lebby either but probly would have made a worse choice. Crapshoot at best. I dont understand hating on Loadholt tho. He was hired late last year. Missed the portal and had to grab guys in the spring. He has not been here long enough to be grade imo. We will see this year tho

The absolute best thing we could do is paint ourselves as is a place to resurrect your career. Sherrill got his 2nd chance here.

Ole Miss hired Kiffin as a second chance after he flopped at USC.

We should 100% hire a guy that has won big before, but flamed out of his last job at the end. Jimbo, Ed O, Brian Kelly, Gundy. These guys have won or played for a title. Do that instead of hiring no name Charles Huff.

People want to say Jimbo sucks! He got fired by A&M he sucks! Well, he’s won a national title. I’d be fine having a national championship winning coach as the coach of MS State.

We’re not getting a sitting P4 coach. So we can hire a coordinator, which many would complain about, or a G5 coach, which many would complain about.

Or we could think outside the box for once and give a guy a second chance.

The OL portal haul wasn’t as bad as others make it out to be. McVay had a solid spring at LT he was recruited as the starter had Seaton not jumped in the portal. Sneh was signed as Jayvin James replacement he was a little on the small side. But UAB screwed that up on his eligibility. Chester was a freshman all sec at LSU. Steen returns after being one of the most sought after RT in the portal last spring. We just beat out AU and ARK for the Mercer guard who was all conference in that league. On3 has our portal class ranked 13th ahead of OM FYI.

I'm skeptical that Jimbo or Brian Kelly would win big here.

...however I'm quite certain that they would be better than 7-18 (1-15) if they had been our coach for the last 2 years. Either of them probably has 10 or 11 wins and we'd all be expecting another bowl this fall.

It was ok. But heavy on future potential and zero experience. Won’t be much help this year if any. And can go back in the portal in January.

McVay started games at bama and UNC. Chester started as a freshman LSU Steen started at UVA Boone has started games here last year. This doesn’t count Mathew’s from FSU and Prudhomme
