No way in HELL anybody on scholarship at this level should miss that last layup Hyatt missed. I’m sure it’s gonna haunt him all night, and he hit some big 3’a today, but this is EXACTLY what I’ve been harping in this season. YOU CAN NOT MISS THAT!!!

My initial take was that he tried to let it go as soon as possible (and short armed it) thinking the clock was close to expiring.

....and the worst part is I would say to just bench Hyatt. But we are so inept offensively we actually need to take all his baggage (and it's a ton) because we are so desperate for his scoring. That alone tells you how bad of shape we are in.

Hyatt didn’t lose that game. We missed shots like that all game. Cliff missed a layup on the previous possession. It’s a culmination of many misses and poor shots by the whole team. And more importantly, our lack of ability to get guys open and hit cutters. If I were game planning against Rutgers I would put pressure on the ball from the second we inbound and create the constant discomfort SH did last night. Our guards are not good enough to handle it and we have nobody on the roster they can create his own shots. Game over if you have the athletes to put on the pressure. Not on Hyatt…we should beat a crappy team like seton hall by 20.

Can we make Hyatt a 3 and D guy? He's certainly not a bad player, but my god is he frustrating. Feels like 95% of his drives end with a travel, offensive foul, or missed layup.

Guys miss layups all the time including players on scholarship. What level of basketball did you play?

Hyatt was afraid any conventional looking put back would be highly contested or blocked.
He threw up an unblockable attempt that had no prayer
This. Go up STRONG and either draw the foul or put it in the basket.

Saw seton hall miss a bunch of bunnies too.

It sucks but this is the norm in college bball.
Players are rushed. Have guys in their face and miss.

With that said. Hyatt. Must convert
We actually did a good job in this game UNTIL that Hyatt miss. SHU, on the other hand, made a few (much more difficult ones) when it counted (unfortunately).

Scholarship players miss layups in every basketball game. You may want to check your source. In fact there were a lot of layups missed by a lot of scholarship players on both teams. Hence the low scoring.

We turned the ball over a million times. We have a sharpshooter that don’t shoot. A star center taking himself off the court because he can’t control his emotions.

We miss more than most - ESPECIALLY UNCONTESTED - and Hyatt's was a 100% "gimmie." Sorry, but I'm sure he'll tell you same.

Someone already showed you the data that Rutgers is in the middle of the pack for layup %. Unless you have data that shows otherwise, it’s just silly to keep repeating a false narrative.

No doubt he short armed it but was it close to expiring? 100%. I didn’t notice the shot clock at the game live though
When the shot left Hyatt's hand there were between 6 and 7 seconds left on the game clock. (shot clock was off since Paul's shot had hit the rim...) Regardless, it's unfortunate that a clean 5 foot shot to tie the game was almost an airball.

Hyatt should get the bulk of his playing time during the 1st half of when the game is not yet on the line and his nerves are somewhat steady. Limit his time during the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half when his knees are beginning to shake and hands starting to tremble and don't play him at all during the last 10 minutes of the game when he is popping Xanax.

Wouldn't Xanax call him down?

Honestly, I think I'd rather have him hoisting a three rather than a layup with the game on the line...

Hyatt should be able to muscle a dunk.
And Paul needs to stop trying to force cutesy passes where they don’t exist. At least four easy turnovers on those attempted passes.

Take a friggen jump shot or a 3 Paul.
Make a few and you’ll be able to beat your defender off the dribble

I didn't see that as a layup. A little further away and no chance at a dunk.
I think that maybe Aundre could've driven to the basket if he'd decided to. Hall guys were nearby but not in position to block the shot. I think he was unaware of the remaining time on the clock (which in the heat of battle may be understandable), because he seemed to begin his shot motion as soon as he got possession of the ball. Cliff and 3 SHU guys had gone up for the rebound on Paul's miss, on the RU bench side of the key. Cliff was able to swat it back toward Hyatt on the opposite side of the key, and Aundre grabbed the ball and immediately shot the ball from the same position with about 6 seconds left and missed badly.
