Why do you guys act like Flood has some ulterior motive to screw over Rettig and favor Laviano? Can't you just see this for what it is? We have two essentially equal QBs and Flood simply doesn't know who to pick because they're playing just about the same. End of story. There's no motive. He wants Rutgers to win as many games as possible, just like the rest of us.

I am not picking a side, don't think todays stats tell the whole story. Both QB's looked good though.

Rettig throw a real bad ball that should have been picked, but also had a long pass to Grant called back for bogus holding call. He also didn't have Carroo. But other than the almost pic, he played well.

Laviano played well, but first TD pass to Carroo was way underthrown and Superman made a great play. That guy will make any QB look good.

I believe in both guys, and this is a tough decision. If I had to pick it would be Rettig. Flood may have to play both guys.

Ray says Rettig, Milewski says Retting, just for your info.

David Milewski said after the game that Rettig showed more and should be the guy based on today. He knows a lot more than you for sure.

I didn't like Milewski's commentary after the game waiting in the lot.
Too negative of a tone and how can he say Retting absolutely when Laviano was 4-4 with 3 TDs?

BOTH QBs were impressive.
I liked Rettig's mobility a lot too.

Laviano only had 4 passes...an under thrown ball that Superman made a play on...a roll out to Caroo who did not have a defender within 10 yards ... a WR screen to Caroo ... and a dump off to PJ. If you listened to Ray and David, they both suggested that folks will look at 4-4 and 3 td's and not understand that he did not have to make any reads or tough throws to move the chains.

FWIW, Ray Lucas also would go with Rettig.

Anyone think the Laviano to carroo pass was not called by flood? As kinda a message from the qb that they both should have started?

Not Lav's fault, he did what he had to.

Both looked sharp.

I didn't fault Laviano for hitting dump offs. My point is that his stats were misleading based on such. As for Rettig having the higher ceiling, that has been noted by the Mods on this site repeatably all year.

I just don't know what a higher physical ceiling looks like. Id love for the mods to answer this as well. Does it mean he will throw even harder next year? Are they just assuming he will become a more savvy player? Maybe he will keep improving and laviano will decide to not improve?
Both guys are in the same QB room and learning the same things. So far, laviano has done a better job of applying the information he has learned. That's what matters at QB. People think rettig will just continue to improve while laviano stops, but why would laviano stop improving? If anything, he has a higher physical ceiling since he is the better athlete .

I would say Rettig based on this game. He was very accurate, receivers are going to catch his passes. Coach Flood has seen a lot more of both guys than us though and knows best.

I have been around for a long time. I have always subscribed to the statement ,

"When you make a decision, you can be right or wrong. If you don't make a decision, you are always wong."

WIth the current state of affairs, for us to be successful, we will need win on offense. Laviano got suspended for doing something stupid. Lack of judgement get a minus 1. To me, Rettig looked better than Laviano. His ball looked better. He even followed a long Rutgers QB tradition of not seeing the linebacker drop back in coverage.. Based on today's game, Laviano does not throw the ball as well as Rettig.. Retttig gets a plus 1. Rettig wins the starting job.

But I don't really care who he chooses, as long as he makes a choice......by Monday. You have enough data. It is time for the CEO to stop screwing around, put a stake in the ground and start leading.

Both kids had one bad throw. People keep mentioning the underthrow TD to Carroo but not all reference the near INT. Both played well. Rettig seemed to read the field better, but Laviano held his own and was crisp in his playfakes and keeping eyes downfield too. The offense seemed to hum along better w Laviano.
Don't you mean the offense seemed to hum along better with CAROO and a gassed Norfolk defense. I like them both but prefer Rettig at this time.

Jumping jeez I mean really. The roll out pass was supposed to go to the receiver on an out, he was somewhat covered however Caroo was wide open and he dumped it to him instead. Or he was supposed to look off the out and look to the middle, regardless, are you really mad he made a td throw. I'm mean really.

Watch the replay you will see Laviano look to the out pattern and then recognize Caroo and then get Leone the ball.

Shheeeez I mean this is almost as pathetic as nj.com beat writers.

I like both QBs. I don't care who starts.

However, from my untrained eyes, it looks like Laviano makes quicker reads. Not to criticize but against Norfolk State it doesn't matter as our OL was much bigger and able to provide a ton of time for each QB. That will not be the case, agains bigger and more talented opponents.

Rettig did more than enough today to earn the start next week. He ran the offense well and made some nice throws. He also did it w/o Carroo and during the first half while Norfolk St. was still hanging in there. They were done in the second half. Most of Laviano's yardage was the result of his receiver's efforts. His throws were mostly dump-offs and his deep balls lacked accuracy. Rettig also has the much higher physical ceiling. The biggest knock on him is that he needs experience. I say let him play and get that experience.
pick up your chicken dinner, winner.

fair comments based on visible evidence.
