Lathan stats were 8 points and 4 rebounds a game. He shot 11% from 3 pt range. His defense was... you have eyes.

We will see. If a coach pays him anything over 150,000, I would be very surprised.

I will gladly eat crow.

I meant as an example of well resourced high major. He ain’t starting, so what’s his value to this kind of team ?

It’s a good question. In the crazy new world, it’s possible it could be a lot more than 150k. Think about economics, right? Supply and demand dictates price and there aren’t that many centers to go around. Every team needs a back up due to injuries and such.

Except that he’s not a center in overall skill or the way he plays small

He doesn’t want to play D dude. He marched into Pike’s office and demanded 7 figures to entertain staying. Thats what Richie said in the podcast. Even if he works out somewhere else - he needed to go. How everyone doesn’t see this is mind boggling
A lot of coaches much better than Pikiel seem to think he's worth a lot.

He is a split time center best case, he is not quick, no hops, and is slow off the floor, if you have a strong team and lots of money and need 10-15 fifteen minutes a game off the bench he fits. His game, with time and coaching, will improve, his athleticism, reaction time, quickness, and verticality will not get a whole lot better. Maybe he could be a four, but if you take him away from the basket he’s a defensive liability.

Kid was fantastic as a frosh. Like best free throw shooter in the country lol....that alone is gold for a big man. Think what you want of him but he's very talented and RU certainly won't get better.

He wasn’t “fantastic”. Most would agree that likely would’ve won more games by swapping him for Mag (pretending the quitting thing didnt happen) and playing most minutes without a center at all. So sorry, no, that doesn’t meet the definition of “fantastic”. He didn’t play like a center. Not a good enough rebounder and horrendous at D. Yes, I get he’s a frosh but his production wasn’t even centerlike let alone fantastic for that position.

We'll see. Well circle back if they ever release the price he got paid.

8 pt scorer that provides no rim protection, is nowhere near a true center, still heavy, lacks defense, and shot 13.1 percent behind the arc? Are you giving that kid 200,000? I am not even sure if Somerville is a 4. And don't say he's a positionless player because you have to be able to shoot to be one.

I am not fully in touch with NIL. I guess overall I am saying I know if I was a coach, or Rutgers, I would not be throwing a million at Somerville. Let someone else do it. His play leaves a lot to be desired.

And you need foot speed at the major conference level.

But he could start and put up double doubles at the low major level, for example. The best player on a MAAC roster will make more than $200k I assume. Hes going to collect a nice pay check somewhere.

Kid is a stud for frosh. Will be headed to NBA soon. His D will take leaps with how young he is.

Come on man. Lathan an NBA player. This is just getting silly now.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he does develop into a very decent college player but he does not have ANYWHERE NEAR the measurables of what the NBA wants. I mean he’s a “tweener” in college….

He will have a decent college career and then have a mediocre pro career overseas somewhere. But NBA…. you clueless.

With that said - would have like to bring him back - but I also realize/ believe: (1) he wasn’t coming back no matter what happened this year; and (2) with our myriad needs it would have been gross negligence for RU to pay that kid $1 mil .

There are some here (chow) that blame pike for EVERYTHING .

Instead we should blame pike for the various things he actually did mess up this year …. But this is aint remotely one of them. imho if this kid wants $1 mil it’s an absolute no brainer to let him go.

Every school will have around $5 million revenue sharing for basketball, for a maximum of 15 players, so many will be getting more then the $200K you say you would not give & big men will demand the most money of any player on each team. Personally I am ok with Sommerville leaving since he does not play defense, but if you think that other schools won't pay a lot for him your wrong

Let’s parse. He was fantastic at whining and falling on his belly imitating seals. Shelby would have donated just to see cheerleaders toss him fish.

Not fantastic at basketball, however.

Kid got close to a million to sign with Washington.
