Just finished it. Loved it. My take aways are:

1. Coach Stephens is a damned good head coach. If you think he cussed too much, then something has changed since I played ball. He got the penalty he deserved for that fight with the ref, but he should have NOT fought back. He is supposed to be the head guy.

2. Coach Woods needs to be our next hire at MSU.

3. The fight. Completely understand why the rest of the team joined in when a dozen or more Delta players were stomping Law. Officials should have taken control of the game early. Delta accomplished what they wanted and it was a **** job by their school and refs. EMCC should have gotten the penalty they did, but the officials and Delta team and school should have been punished very severely.

4. We could use Brittany Wagner on our staff somewhere, but you probably could not get her out of that spot easily. You can tell it is a big part of her life.

5. It's a shame Ollie is a trainwreck because he could anchor a mean *** defense. Felt bad for the kid.

6. Franklin is going to get lit up in the SEC. He can throw the ball a mile and very, very quick on his feet... but the inability to throw the finesse pass is going to be his downfall.

7. I may have to stream some of their games this year.

8. It really gave me a big taste of the small town Mississippi I grew up with. I really miss some of it, but really don't miss some of it as well.

Well done doc. Well done.

My son played two years there and started for the first natty champ team. A few observations:

I was slow to warm to Buddy at first but he grew on me as I watched him coach and manage those teams. I think he's a hell of a coach now and a master at melding a team out of such a unique blend of athletes.

My son loved playing for him. For instance, one day I was asking him about how Buddy challenges calls like a basketball coach and that I had never seen a football coach do that to the degree he does. My son said that the players loved that - that those are the kinds of things that made the players know that Buddy had their back. I never thought of that before but it made sense.

Marcus is a top shelf coach and guy.

We thought the film was an accurate picture of Scooba Tech football as we observed it and were a part of it a few years ago.

We still go to a few games a year and thoroughly enjoy it.

Watched all episodes last night.....my 2 cents:

1. Buddy Stephens is a likable *******.....he should have never fought that ref

2. MDCC is for sure full of thugs, coaches and players.....CBS said it correct, the outcome of that game was pretty much determined long before kickoff, and it did.

3. I was hoping they would put 100 on MDCC (had forgotten the incident)

4. Ronald Ollie just didn't get it, but hope he succeeds at Nicholls State....I couldn't believe he was complaining about lack of offers at the end, and what offers were coming his way, he said "no thanks, I'm better than you".....complete dumbass

5. I looked up TJ Law's name on 247 while watching the show, he originally committed to Utah, visited Tennessee, and later switched to Ole Miss and signed with them out of high school....grades and knee got him to UAB this summer....hope he does well.

6. John Franklin is a great athlete, but for sure thinks he is better than he really is.....if he is starter day one for Auburn, then Gus has major problems

7. Brittany Wagner: I'd hit it.

He got an offer from Auburn after scoring 6 rushing TD's on the worst JUCO defense ever. That little ***** will get broke in half against any SEC defense.

Here are my thoughts/takeaways:

1. Brittany Wagner is easily the star of the documentary and is going to get a big payday. Either some other school or organization is going to try to scoop her up or EMCC is going to pay up to keep her on staff.

2. Wyatt Roberts is a class act. I hate that (spoiler alert) he didn't get any D1 offers or get asked to walk-on at State. Bad timing, QB-wise. There were plenty of years we could have done a lot worse than have him as a walk-on. Still, getting an Engineering degree at the Bagley school is a pretty damn good life choice.

3. Was that a Croom-era logo rug hanging on Brittany Wagner's office wall? It looked too small to be a blanket and too thick to be a towel.

4. I would want my son to play for Marcus Woods. You could tell he was really nervous to tell Buddy that he disagreed with the way he handled the Delta fight aftermath, but he went ahead with it. Honestly, he kinda saved Buddy from himself in that exchange. This documentary ends a lot differently if (spoiler alert) Buddy doesn't have his Mea Culpa.

5. John Franklin III - so much misplaced confidence. Auburn is a good fit for him.

6. I think this will ultimately hurt EMCC's recruiting. It's not that EMCC has an especially bad coaching staff or anything, but I think the inner workings of any football team is going to have a lot of ugliness. An ESPN crew doing a 30 minute 'day in the life at (insert college)' segment on ESPNU is a lot different than a (soon to be) award winning six part documentary airing on a premium service. Plus, the players crapping on Scooba ('they ain't got nothin but a Subway and a chicken place') and how they regret going to EMCC doesn't help.

7. A lot of Mississippi Delta Blues music for a documentary about a school that exists on the complete opposite side of the state.

8. Do coaches really watch game film like they're about to use a Ouija board? There's a scene where Woods is watching game film by candlelight with a hood pulled over head. Just a weird visual.

9. Chad Kelly is an ******* to children. Poor ballboy was just trying to retrieve the ball and he picks it up and hurls it in the other direction.

10. Mississippi Delta Community College coaching staff and players came off looking really bad. Twitterverse saying they've lost some commits already.

11. Clarion Ledger accurately portrayed as a piece of ****.

12. It's good that Forest Whitaker's character from the Shield found work as an assistant at SEMO.

13. The maintenance guy was almost like Waylon Jenning's Balladeer from the Dukes of Hazzard.

14. Speaking of the maintenance guy, I asked my wife if his comment about watching "JUCO over the SEC any day" was akin to my standing opinion about that I'd rather watch College FB than the NFL. She was charitable enough to say 'no'.

15. It was very... meta?... watching this documentary. Did any of you ever think you'd see a quality sports documentary that prominently featured a coaching staff game-planning for Northeast and Copiah-Lincoln?

16. The Ref pushed first.

17. Buddy Stephens was what he was. You're either into that coaching style or not. I personally think he went too far a few times (shoving players, threatening violence, threatening scholarships, post Delta fight tirade), but he gets results. I did love the dichotomy of "GODDAMMIT! YOU MOTHER17ERS BETTER GET YOUR GODDAMNED HEAD OUT OF YOUR GODDAMNED ASSES!... alright now, bring it in and let's pray... Our Father, who art in Heaven..."

18. EMCC shouldn't have been banned from postseason play.

19. I could have watched another six episodes. This was great.

I agree with both Wizard and Pars. The crude joke at Rotary made me far more uncomfortable than his behavior on the field. I really wouldn't know how I'd have responded to a coach whose vocabulary was not a continuous river of bravado and ********.

Because of the fight at the end, I wonder how much the whole thing changed from what the producers thought it would be? I'm sure they were thinking a NC would be a cool ending, then they got the drama of the fight. TV gold.

As a Scooba Tech-Alum--thanks for the post. When EMCC was the smallest JC in the Nation and were getting our *** whipped nobody had a beef with our Coach. But win 3 Natty's and it is mean ole Scooba and Buddy. I wouldn't care if we cut back on the cussing some but let's keep beating living **** out everybody else.

I looked up Ollie's offer sheet on 247 and it shows that he had offers from UL-Lafayette, Memphis, and Southern Miss. How'd he end up at Nicholls State? Did the bigger schools back off or did he actually choose Nicholls over those 3?

Wagner was at state when I was there. 2001ish. She worked in athletic media relations and was married to coach ishee. Coached under polk. She then married Coach Mark White who coached under Stans and was hired by scooba to coach. He's since moved on and Bill Begley took over as head coach.

Heard Buddy speak before last season and he bashed Mullen a couple times. Said he's tried to send him guys but will not work with him. Daughter goes to state and made some comment about never sending money to Dan and State. Loved him some reverend freeze.

We've had several croots come from EMCC over the years.

However, I can totally see Buddy and Mullen not gee'hawing. It's not that far of a stretch to think that. A couple of things, though:

1. Mullen probably isn't the one visiting recruits there (at least not often), so they probably don't have to have much contact with each other, anyway. It looked to me like most of the recruiting was done with recruiting and position coordinators.
2. Regardless, we still have seen some recruits come from EMCC over the years.

Also, it's fair to note that Without EMCC's success, OM would not be where they are today. Period. Hugh Freeze owes Buddy Stephens a new bass boat and probably a hunting cabin somewhere because if he wasn't there, OM would have had Liggins and Buchanan as quarterbacks instead of Wallace and Kelly (we can throw Mackey in there too, I guess)

I think that show was one of the worst things that could happen to Buddy and EMCC. Especially for the distractions it apparently caused last year. Short term gain. Long term loss.

I disagree. That kind of national exposure gave them a short-term loss, but result in a long-term gain.

We have more kids that were home schooled on the team than played at scooba this year. Not sure who our last scooba kid was. I remember Maurice Langston.

I enjoyed the show. Makes me want to go watch Undefeated again.

Anyone who hasn't seen that, you should take a couple hours and watch it too. Will Redmond's high school team. It's awesome.

I don't think those were actual offers.

After watching this I don't see how anyone in their right mind would want to pay these kids in addition to their schollies. The majority of the players were a waste of money just existing at East Mississippi in support or one or two "high profile" players.

I haven't looked yet, but don't we have 2 guys committed off last year's team?

Tyree Phillips and at least one other that I saw in Last Chance U.

By the way, are we looking at Isaiah Wright? Besides DJ Law, that dude may have been the biggest playmaker.

ETA: Yep, Drelan Porter is the other commit
