So, we get Iowa St's bball coach that has worked out so well that we are going to take their head football coach too.. yeah, that makes sense. Listen. We need a home run hire that is a proven winner in the B1G. Not some guy that just beat Iowa for the first time EVER in an ugly game. This would be a stupid hire. Big pass on this guy. IQ < 70.

Many said that Trev had Campbell locked up last year, before being talked out of firing Frost. I was hoping with another 6 months to search he might do better, but Campbell is a good coach.
Urban Meter wasn't a possibility last year.

Yeah his winning percentage at Iowa State is .568
I would hope Nebraska tries for Aranda, among others, before Campbell.

Don't mind Clonewithasigh, he is still waiting for the B1G invite that he was certain Iowa State was going to receive...LAWLS

I still suspect Mickey was brought in by Trev for this situation. Make no mistake Whip and Mickey are Trev guys
If we hired a guy with Mickey’s resume who wasn’t a prior Husker this place would implode

no serious coaching search at any other power 5 school and few if any div 1 schools would have Mickey Joseph even on a list of candidates

maybe he would be fine … but he has not earned this head coach job

That's exactly why NU needs to quit being frugal and back the truck up and dump the bag out for a real deal coach.

I love that ISU fans are here telling us how we won't get their coach...and Husker fans are basically saying we don't want him. Haha

I would be unimpressed with MC...but, the west is so horrible that he would do just fine here.

Hope to god this doesn’t happen. Not sure he is any better than Mike Riley. This would be a TERRIBLE hire.

I have no opinion at this point on either but I’m curious why many look on Klieman at KSU so much more favorably than Campbell at ISU?

the question I have with many of the coaches in the Campbell - klieman category boils down to is their success limited by their coaching or by the school they are at

does moderate success at KSU or ISU translate into a higher degree of success at Nebraska?

If Campbell is the worst we can do this search, I am happy. I mean aim for the stars first, but MC is a dam good coach, if that is our fall back option.

At the very minimum, Trev has to at least observe Mickey for 3-4 games to see if he is a viable HC candidate.

He might surprise the hell out of us, or we might find out real quick that he really isn't HC material.

He's who NU has, so all short term focus needs to be made to try to help him lead the team one way or the other.

For all you Campbell for HC advocates here's his record at Iowa State:
44 wins, 34 losses and a winning percentage of 56.4% and no conference titles. :(

Campbell is the polar opposite of Mike Riley. He's young and runs a very disciplined, no-nonsense program. He'd get us back to bowl games every year.

Would he win championships here? Probably not, but I'm not sure any coach except Saban or Lincoln Riley would get us back to that level. Campbell would at least make us respectable again.

Yep it will be obvious quick. Think Dabo at Clemson vs Dante at USC

He has more of a resume than Zac Taylor had when Cincinnati hired him. How about the Viking head coach who just beat Rodgers?

Both those guys had NFL coordinator experience. Joseph has never been a coordinator.
Both those guys interviewed for other of nfl jobs

joseph has never been a candidate for a power 5 position nor will he be this year if it isn’t for Nebraska

it will be a cheap hire if Trev is looking to save money

Mickey was the pass game coordinator for a national championship team. He has Whip to call plays. Being a head coach is quite a bit different than coordinating. There’s been plenty of great coordinators fail as head coaches. I’ll trust Trev to make that judgment.

Not my first pick, but let’s consider what Campbell has done.

He went to a perennial bottom feeder with little resources and no tradition and was able to bring in some talent to Ames, but more importantly has developed it. Has broken nearly every record at ISU (in a good way).

I would agree with @headcard though - can he take Nebraska to a championship level?

True, but Dabo, Sam Pittman, and PJ Fleck had never been coordinators either when they got their first head-coaching jobs. So you never know. The Head Coach is more of a CEO, if you're a great leader and bring in great coordinators and assistants, you can succeed.

I have no doubt that there are some poorly qualified . Thanks boosters that are lobbying for Campbell.

No he wasn’t - Joe Brady was the passing game coordinator -
