My question to the pack is.. will the wins vs. losses contribute to coaches or even new coaches being on the hot seat? Do the new coaches get a bye? Or are we just happy that we’re playing football?

I just have a hard time seeing anybody considering this a "real" season, even if we get to play all 10 games. It's going to end up being one long, glorified string of exhibitions.

Though I'm hopeful that some coaches will use that as an opportunity to go for broke and be a little more creative with things (i.e., play calling).

I guess I’m confused between the title and the body of the post, to be honest?

But to answer the post - I think new coaches will mostly get a pass. Now, sure one of them going 0-10 or 1-9 will be a huge factor when evaluating next seasons results, but they aren’t getting fired after this year. Another factor is that the schools are all taking huge financial hits from COVID, plus so are many major donors. So that buyout money won’t be flowing like normal either. For better or worse, LK and Leach will be our coaches for the next 4 years, unless one moves on to greener pastures. And if they do, it means they’ve won big, obviously.

I think all coaches should receive a pass this year. You are going to see things nobody has ever seen. With so much filmwork and drill being done by position group we will wake up to headlines saying things like LSU quarantines the entire defensive line. Or Ole Miss is starting a QB next week who last played QB in Jr High. Or Auburn just lost their top five running backs to Covid-19.

New coaches especially will get a pass. Even the regulars will. There will be a ton of asterisks on this season, even if we do in fact decide, in the end, to play. Still have about 5 weeks to decide for sure.

I think the only coaches remotely on the hot seat this year are Mason and Muschamp, and they’d both have to be a total disaster to get fired. Even in Mason’s case they could go 0-10 and he still might keep his job because he’s gotten Vandy to two bowl games and they either have a lot of patience with him or they’re content to just get to 6-6 once every three years and the rest doesn’t matter.

I don’t think you can judge any of the new coaches at all this year. Like can you really hold it against Sam Pittman that all of his most winnable games got replaced with Georgia and Florida? Of course not. This isn’t true every year, but this year I feel like the Egg Bowl may be the only game that truly matters for State and Ole Miss (unless they screw around and lose to Arkansas or Vandy or something like that). Both Leach and Kiffin would be viewed as having a solid year if they merely go 4-6 with an Egg Bowl win.

If nothing else, a lot of teams that don’t have a good year will have a lot of built in reasons justifying it.

If the USA Today article is true Coach O may become Coach O No and not make it to the season.

Coaches do not get a pass because of the schedule
"You Play To Win The Game"!!
The emotional involvement on game day will be just the same as it has always been.
