Watching the 60 on 60 ESPN show on Lane revealed a guy who marches to his own drummer,no doubt.
In that show he came across as a matured, sober, content family man.

But his natural instincts are to ignore outside voices and the maverick side probably still lurks inside.
I suspect the competitive juices flow hard and he has a burning desire to reach the top of the mountain and tell the raiders,USC,and saban....told ya so!

Pretty interesting. A school plans to fire a HC unless he signs an extension? That's kinda nuts.

Coaches getting $11 million - soon it will be $15 million. Why not $20 million? Andy Reid makes $20 million.

CF has become the NFL, without a salary cap for players and unlimited free agency.

Kiffin might be trolling FL and LSU, just to announce a huge Ole Miss extension next week. I saw the jet yesterday in Baton Rouge, but he would take it to that level for trolling purposes. That’s his style

Wouldn't they have to pay him out if they fired him? Wouldn't be for cause.

I certainly agree. But there is this .....

"The Oakland Raiders fired Kiffin in 2008 "for cause", meaning the Raiders did not have to pay him the remainder of his contract. One of the reasons cited was Kiffin's lack of concern for his contract with the team."

I'm not sure what that means exactly, but maybe Miss. is going to try that approach.

If I was Kiffin I would just say I don't want to sign an extension because I may retire at the end of the current contract.

He is going to get paid. Ole Miss will decide who is paying him.

Ole Miss needs to realize they will essentially become a SEC bottom feeder without him.

He's 31-6 in the last 3 years and he's about to take an SEC team that's not LSU, Alabama, or Georgia to the CFP.
Whether you like him or not, if you are Florida or LSU, who do you hire if not him? He's got his team to around #5 ranking, he's going to the CFP, and he might be pried away. If not him, then who are you bringing in that is a successful coach and can make you part of the conversation?

Pretty much. If he can do it at Ole Miss, he can do it at Florida or LSU with their cash and facilities. You can also expect him to bring his playmakers with him through the portal.

That's why the report of Ole Miss moving on from him because he won't give a commitment is so stupid. If he leaves, their roster is toast. If you want to win the game, you gotta have skin in the game.

Sure, because nobody knows how to coach football except Lane Kiffin. (Indiana will never be a football power. It's a basketball school. Cignetti who?)

Ferentz is and always will be a better coach, leader, and developer of NFL talent than Lane Kiffin ever will be.
And nobody could ever coach football at Iowa like KF has. Nobody. Which is why once again I suggest cloning KF immediately so that when KF 1.0 finally expires, KF 2.0 can take over. How else can Iowa EVER expect to play football and build men again? Oh, yah, and lose all those games but put all those guys into the NFL, which is the ONLY reason I watch Iowa football.

Everywhere this guy goes there is always drama

Saban fired this clown one week before a national title game LOL. Florida, here is some friendly advice, hire Kiffin and you will be looking for a new coach in a couple of years. The guy is toxic and cannot coach anyway. What has he ever won.

Kiffin is a no talent. He will get fired five more times before he ever reaches the top.

The guy coaching at Iowa City High is too. Kiffin's dad and him being associated with Pete Carroll and Saban made this fraud. Ole Miss plays a weak schedule.

Can you imagine Iowa switching out coaches every 4 or 5 years like some of these schools do.

Why is the world would you want Lane? What has he ever won? I wish Kirk would get a crack at him in the citrus bowl or something. Kirk/Phil would hold his Mickey Mouse offense to about 200 yards and 14 points.
Nobody said they wanted Kiffen.

#6 Ole Miss (10-1) is heading to the CFP. Would Lane abandon his current team for a new job within the same conference (Florida or LSU)?

Lane's history:

* USC fired him at an airport.

* Nick Saban bounced him as an Alabama assistant just days before a national title game, convinced he was too focused on his next job as the coach at Florida Atlantic.

* Al Davis dumped him from the Oakland Raiders and declared he had been "conned" into hiring him in the first place.

Good story:

80-32 since with 10 Top 25 wins, with 4 of those being against top 10 teams.

eSECpn "analysts" think Lane wants the Florida job. The problem? His team is heading to the CFP and the timing for switching jobs won't be right for a few weeks.

Well some of these schools actually have higher expectations of lil old Iowa..

I’m wondering how playing musical coaches works out for these programs with “higher expectations?” Auburn has certainly seen huge success since they fired Chizek, right? How has Texas done since they fired Mack Brown? How has Florida done with what’s going to be five head coaches since Urban left town? What about LSU? Onto their third HC since canning Les Miles. Are they consistently better now than when he was there? And who can forget Nebraska! Frank Solich was fired in 2003. The five HCs they’ve had since have have had five ranked seasons. To go along with ten losing seasons. Should we talk about Tennessee? Miami? USC?

Chizek wasn't who was making Auburn win.
