My point is that a corner should NOT lead a team in tackling. Seems like ours are expected to due to some severe front 7 deficiencies.
While you're correct overall, I do believe in the 3-4 the D line isn't supposed to be statistically dominant. Davis had his moments, and I think Stoltenberg has out performed expectations in the middle although stats don't show it...there were some nasty things said about him coming into the year. I'm not saying he's the answer at nose but I gotta give him some credit.
As far as linebackers, newby made some plays but overall there were some poor tackling and they don't seem to attack well. Maybe they are worried about coverage too much.

Lot of 4-3 look tonight if you were actually paying attention. Still got singled all night. Linebackers were bad as well, for some reason running to blocks instead of the ball in multiple cases. It was staggering to watch.

Yes you're right, there was a four look. But I also think stolt has done better than expected and Carlos is a player. Not saying they are all conference.

I agree. LB struggles are standing out. D line trying to 2 gap gets ugly sometimes.

My point was in reference to him fighting off blocks to make several tackles on the edge that a cornerback damn well has to make if they want to play.

Significant improvement but still a little gun shy. Hope he keeps improving.
He's playing with a bum shoulder and has for several games. If it looks like he's afraid to hit it's because he's trying to protect an injury and he HAS to play. The kid laid some wood last night and had some tremendous plays where he fought through bubble screen blocks to make tackles. Our DBs are making tackles because our linebackers are banged up and not playing very well right now. Stille makes some plays sometimes but he got WAY out of position a couple of times last night that led to big QB runs. The bottomline was our D stepped up bigtime in crunch time last night and dominated those last 2 possessions.

I commented earlier that it seemed as if Jackson may have been offended at all the comments questioning his manhood. He stuck his nose in there several times to make the important tackle(albeit Deon Sanders style). He got hurt right after I made that comment. He played tough tonight. Well done kid.
Stuck his nose in there, or they are singling him out? Drew Brown is more physical.

He still has very poor tackling form.Tries to shoulder tackle. Jones was terrible.

To me, the most important thing Lamar did this game that he did not do in past games was contain the ballcarrier and hold the edge. You are absolutely right though, his tackling form is atrocious when he isn't going head-on. They really need to remind him that he's 6'3" 215. Break down, wrap those long arms around the legs, and drive through. He's tackling like he's only 150 pounds way too often.

Purdue really did go after him this game and Lamar needs to understand every single opposing coach sees him as a weakness when they watch the tape. It was good to see improvement from him because they tested him with the wide passing and running, hence his tackle numbers.
