In a key Bay Rivers District showdown, the Lafayette Rams overcame a slow start and scored two 2nd-half touchdowns to defeat Warhill 14-7. Old Dominion commit Baum Hogge accounted for both scores with a running and a passing touchdown.
The key play of the game was a 4th quarter fumble by Warhill, which gave Lafayette the ball at the Lions' 24-yard line. Hogge threw a short pass to Jael Love, who juked one defender before racing down the sideline for a touchdown.
After the kickoff went out of bounds. Warhill took over at their own 35-yard line. Carson Strickland connected with senior Micah Mason for a 15-yard completion after a pass interference, and the Lions were at the Lafayette 33-yard line. Warhill reached the 14-yard line, but two incomplete passes resulted in a turnover on downs. Lafayette lined up in victory formation and ran out the clock.
Lafayette started off sluggish and finished the 1st half with more penalty yards than total offense.
Baum opened the 2nd half with a 29-yard run and added an 11-yard run a few plays later. Two straight quarterback runs resulted in a 2-yard touchdown that tied the game 7-7 with 4:25 to go in the 3rd quarter. I had Hogge for 60 yards rushing and 70 yards passing.
Warhill led 7-0 at halftime, scoring a touchdown with 1:22 to go in the 2nd quarter. Strickland threw deep to junior Ashtin Rooks for a 47-yard completion to the 7-yard line. Senior running back Noah Arokium ran the final seven yards to end a 9-play, 83-yard drive.
