Yankees, yours is the only opinion I've heard that was negative. On the premium board, they're speaking highly of it. I thought it was great. The broadcasters even brought it up. I was surprised at how good her voice was.

I'm not saying that you're not entitled to your view. But I don't think you're in the majority. I dont' care for her work But she was surprisingly good, IMO.

Plaino I actually like some of her stuff but I thought this was bad. I'm in a room of about 30 people and pretty much everyone agrees. I guess it's all opinion.... I think she tried WAY too hard

Eh, artists don't abdicate their egos when they become artists. Hardly...

You can sing a song straight up as it was intended by the writer, which is boring, or you can tweak it little bit and make it your own, at least for brief time you're singing it.
That's the real fun part of the deal.

As I saw it she stayed pretty traditional, with some octave flips, everybody does that on it.

Hey man, she knew all the words...I'm a happy boy.:D

That was perhaps the greatest rendition I've ever heard. Cannot believe someone didn't like it.

One man's trash is another man's treasure, I guess.

I've never heard the anthem and thought I needed to hear it again. I did tonight.

I tend to agree with Yankee - there is no one like Whitney Houston's rendition.

I thought Lady Gaga's version was good. But watching the actual video of her - I just thought she tried to make the performance about herself than the actual Anthem.

I thought it was pretty damn good actually. I was afraid and started to cringe when she really started to amp it up afraid she was about to horrendously overdo it, but was really surprised she kept it very respectable and clean. I don't think it's the greatest I've ever heard, but like JCon said I would certainly listen to it again and enjoy every second of it.

Not that I really care, but she did okay.
The best anthem I have heard sung was by Linda Ronstadt during a Yankees-Dodgers Series game in 1977. No stylizing or over-singing, just a simple, smooth effort.

If Lady Gaga, (funny, auto correct made it Gags) was that bad, what do you think of the halftime show?!?!?!

I thought the fact that we as a nation of people still enjoy the National Anthem and that we still sing it is what's important. Having varying artists singing for our enjoyment is pretty good stuff. I think disecting their performances is weak sauce. It's the message that's important and each time I hear it, it tugs at my heart strings. Gaga's rendition did the same.

Interesting issue. The video that Senior Sooner posted of the performace has been taken off YouTube because of copyright infringement. I guess that even the National Anthem gets artistic protection.

BTW, the best SSB performance I've ever heard was OKC's own Sandi Patty and the 100th anniversary celebration of the Statue of Liberty. And not by a little.

Now in fairness, it was on tape.

WNAS, better bring a box of Kleenex.

I've listened to Lady Gaga's version a few times now. And the more I hear it, the more impressed I am with it. She put so much emotion and heart into it, without severely overdoing it and butchering it. Her "God Bless you America" at the end was a nice finishing touch. I've heard some really great versions over the years. Of course Whitney Houston comes to mind, and I can recall Martina McBride doing some impressive versions too. But the more I hear Lady Gaga's version I can't help but think it's right up there near the top of any I've ever heard.

Already banned too. I think they are quickly deleting anything with Gaga and the SSB today.

Go check out Sandi doing what her dad called, "Screaming on pitch."

That's preposterous.
Banning the viewing of a song that is clearly public domain.
Oh yeah, I'm so sure it will usher in the demise of western civilization...oops, too late!

Lady Gaga's version of the Star Spangled Banner was, in my opinion, fantastic. Her tribute to David Bowie at last night's Grammy Awards was terrible. The opening was cool, but the rest was her just running aronund in circles singing upbeat and altered tempos of his songs, which covered about a 10 year period. Did not care for her performance at all.
