^^^This^^^. In this new era of college football we all tend to ignore the elephant in the living room: Money. His decommitment could be as simple as that. We are going to have to seriously upgrade our NIL offers or we are going to be left in the dust. Some on here keep claiming that we do offer a lot of NIL money. But I do not see us showing up on any of the top NIL lists. Perhaps I am wrong about that. But we are going to have to pay for the blue chip guys that everybody else wants to. And we better be able to pay well...
How crazy is it that we are advocating paying 17/18 yo kids hundreds of thousands if not upwards of millions of dollars out of high school to play college sports? Is the reward really worth the risk? No guarantee that kid will be the difference maker in the program AND if I understand it correctly the money is guaranteed to the kid. I do not fault the kids at all but man, no way I could ever donate to something like that unless I had a big pile of money to burn. And even if that money donated was tax deductible, do we not have bigger problems that we can donate our money to? Homelessness, Veterans, Mental Health crisis etc.....

This whole thing is crazy, that's my rant.

Times have changed and parity hurt Neb more than any school. Those days are long gone and not coming back. What you see is what you should get used to.
I'm so sick of hearing and reading that. Well I guess if you say so, I'll just have to go along with it even if it makes things worse. Durr hurr hurr.

Hmm… they’re certainly stacked at his position… he’s not headed there for playing time... I WONDER what could have lured him away?

We need to win and provide respectable NIL offers. That’s all we can expect. If we need to get into bidding wars For some kid, then no. I don’t mind a kid looking to make some good money while he plays a college game, but if that’s THE main drive, homie don’t play and he can go f himself.

Also, don’t commit when you don’t have the stones to stick to it.
^^^^ THIS is the antiquated thinking that is burying the program. Don’t mean to single you out, but if want talent we’re gonna be bidding on the vast majority of the truly Talented kids. This is the new reality, the new normal. Wake the F up and look around!

We can’t and won’t win championships by ‘developing’ average talent… we need a fair # of kids who KNOW they’re good coming out of school. Those are the ones who win championships. The way it is I’d bet 90% + we’ll never compete for. Lip-service ant best, maybe come for a visit (Dylan). And most of the rest go the way of Lacy.

Even if you pay them and they come to Neb, you’ll never get the numbers. Micro vs macro. Neb isn’t big enough nor does it have the influence to warrant 2 or 3 stars. They want multiple oops. Big states with influencers next door like the SEC. Even migh/OSU. There’s proximity and the businesses around them when it ends. No one is picking Neb to lay down roots and be an influencer. Is what it is. I love it and what it stands for, but 18 year olds don’t. Especially stud athletes that could pick anywhere.

Just curious - why little hope for improvement?
I dont see Haarberg as having a high ceiling and Kaelin had a very average senior season here. Sims as well. Until our line play improves I dont see how our qb play can improve.

Exactly. We can have a few 5-star heart-type guys on the team but we need stars and superstars to get where we want to go. Why are we building 400 million in facilities, carrying a coaching payroll in the 10's of millions, and even bothering with NIL unless it's to win championships? The school is far too heavily invested to pretend this is all just for the good of young people or something.

I hope the recruits who read this board listen to what our coaches have to say and not what some rando fan will say on here.

And if a recruit takes this board that serious where it'll affect their school decision, do we really want them?
Parents gather information wherever and whenever they can. This IS supposedly a recruiting website. When you have a group of supposed fans continuously trashing an assistant it does damage his image in the eyes of anybody who reads the vitriol. It does not help the program. Ultimately each coach is evaluated and their fate decided by Rhule after the season. What a few posters vent isn’t going to influence Rhule

That's what's called a "them" problem. Be better and you won't get criticized. I'm not on the payroll and thus am not beholden to blowing sunshine about team issues. One thing that has become clear the last 20 years, the criticisms on message boards have all turned out to be right. A poster will take a lot of heat on here, or other sites on the web, and then when a coach is let go we all find out the poster was more or less correct.
One note about the payroll, though, I'd happily blow smoke about coaches, decisions, heck, anything in the AD if they want to pay me. Go ahead and contact me here and I'll post all roses and sunshine for them.

Sack rate

RB ypc

The best OLs lead in these two categories

There are more than 100 of them ahead of ours (133 FBS teams)
thanks, even though I was wondering how MWulf measured improvement.

Sack Rate - if we have a better rate in 2023 over 2022, does that show improvement?
RB YPC - if we have a better rate in 2023 over 2022, does that show improvement?

We should create fake accounts and go onto the Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St, etc recruiting message boards, act as their fans, trash talk their (I mean "our") assistants and take their programs down!

In other words, we won’t ever get “F’n dogs and leaders.” If we just recruited like CU, we would be winning championships.

What if we do like CU does and just recruit average players and call the f'n dogs and leaders? Will that win us championships? I assume yes.

You and I both agree that Deion wouldn’t work here. I think the guys a bit of a clown personally, but what he does happens to resonate with some kids who are talented players. Whether it works out who knows. I’d predict they’ll be better next year, but if not, IDGAF. Was merely putting out there what was explained to me BY A FORMER PLAYER. Not my words. Just thought they’d be germane to a discussion.

Find an intelligent answer as to why you think we’re gonna win championships without paying players. I’m all ears. Eyes, whatever. We have the money to at least make a difference, all without acting like Deion.

Hold up. “What he does happens to resonate with some kids who are talented.” Are you suggesting they want to go to play at CU for reasons other than the highest and best pay day? Hasn’t your entire schtick been that we won’t get talented players without outbidding everyone else for that player? But the “f’n dogs and leaders” (your words) are going to CU because of what Neon “does,” not because it is the biggest pay day?

Could literally probably go back a month and find a thousand posts lamenting the idea of paying them. **** there are a few on this page! There is a HUGE fraction of our fanbase who’ll never embrace it. ‘That not the Nebraska Way! Grrrr…’

Not trying to emulate Don Quixote. There does exist a pathway to winning, I’m just pissed off it’s not really being talked about. Agree with @KingKong… WTF is MD doing with our money? Kinda feel like need to ask for an Invoice here. Seriously. There’s been money given, and I can’t imagine that it’s what we’re paying for on the field.

It’s called a you problem if you’re constantly calling out one of our assistants on what is supposedly a Husker recruiting based website. It’s beyond stupid to do that especially weeks before the early signing date when we’re trying to land offensive tackles.

They’re not my words. I just regurgitated. It’s lame. Get off it, seriously. You’ll have to ask the kids who want to Deion WHY they do and hash all that out for yourself. Some of them are getting paid well to do so, and the fact (fact) is that they’re measurably better. I’ll be legit interested to see where we both end up at the end of the season, and to see the trajectory. Deep down, I want them to fail. I hate f’ing Colorado. Almost as much as Bill Snyder, FWIW. I’m opining we’re not gonna be better than teams who pay their players, unless we are paying a comparable amount for other talented players.

No, we don’t have Texas money, or Michigan money, or a lotta program’s money, but we DO have A LOT more than what we’re seeing on the field currently. This is and has been really my only point. We all want the same thing at the end of the day.

This is not a fact at all. You can call them dogs or leaders or whatever, but Colorado is not loaded with any sort of measurable talent outside of two players tied to the HC. They don't have some great NIL, and players aren't beating down the door to play for them. They have a legit NFL type QB and won a couple of shootouts early. They are also getting worse every week and could end the season 4-8.

But don't let those facts get in the way of whatever rant you are on.

I’ll eat my words and be happy to do so. Remind me… but it goes both ways. We also have a firm ceiling currently.
