100% right on this take, but this **** with Hagans was much deeper then Cal played it off. Let's put it this way, Cal isn't missing a postgame radio spot and Hagans isn't "finding himself" and missing a game if it was just the typical stuff. Was told that it was suggested that Hagans be dealt with a month before they finally did. When you reach point you **** on the guy always hyping you up and in your corner, it's got to be dealt with. With a guy like Cal, he was likely just as upset it stole from Senior Night for the people who have helped the program on their night and became about some petty/individual BS.

Only as Cal can do, he put this out and has focused on positives. Best coach I've seen at making a team believe they can advance deep in a tournament, no matter what is going on/how the season goes.

Those who talk of another title, just have to see it play out. It's hard to accomplish no matter what format you operate with. I'm of opinion when Cal gets Elite Lottery Prospects, they are best suited to make a Final Four and that's goal because from there, you have shot to cut nets down. Still need ball/calls/breaks to go your way as we've seen with several teams. In some seasons it's just avoiding clutter ('12 they did it in SEC Tournament, loss refocused) and injuries (only time I even thought '12 team was vunerable in NCAA's was when AD went down against Baylor--once he was back in game, knew it was going to be fine).

I'll just say that many didn't think UK would get another #1 class and they have one now and are looking to add.
I believe it that . Between the rumor of him not wanting to go back into the game and the money thing it was getting ridiculous. Sad part is it’s not like Hagans has the talent of a John Wall or De’Aaron Fox but it seems like he thinks he does .

You are far and away the only “insider” I ever pay attention to. Thanks for the posts.

I have not seen any of the guys in this upcoming class. I did hear and read that this was a strong and deep class and we all know all #1 or #2 recruiting classes are not created equal. Im not complaining because I have enjoyed Cal`s years here and all the talent. One reoccurring sentence that keeps playing over and over in my head is what I heard Louisville fans keep saying " Cal will only win one when another Anthony Davis comes along and there arent many AD`S". I live in Louisville and though I try you cant block out all of their noise. We certainly have had very close misses, and who knows what this year would have brought. We were as good as anybody, and as bad as anybody so who knows? I think we all recognize that the best formula for this thing is to get experience back at one or two positions, load in very talented freshman from a deep year in recruiting, and maybe add in that grad transfer guy. So I am really hoping we can at the very least keep EJ. along with Keon. Transfers are just going to be the way of life in college basketball from here on in, we just got a look at that reality sooner than most programs.

Thanks for compliment but I love this board because so many bring interesting takes and have great discussion. Several others know what is going on and either refrain from sharing things or got frustrated when they did, they got called out. Fortunate to speak with a friend who is well connected. He gets the credit, not me.

Appreciate the fact BBN has allowed me to join in and the year around hoops/recruiting discussion.

If Hagans can't get along with Maxey, a guy always with a smile on his face and seems to be just an awesome kid, how in the world is he gonna get along with Boston and Clarke and maybe a Kuminga or Banchero being far superior in talent all with alpha dog mentalities? Hagans attitude reeks with "I'm above you" and him coming back next season I'm afraid would be a total train wreck.

Happens every year! Assume they’re all gone, until they announce they’re coming back. You’d think after 11 years that folks would understand this concept lol.

Evidently its a concept down are unable to grasp. Which is really a shame. I’ve seen post after post that is reacting and assuming something that is not only unclear right now but there have been legit sources saying it’s very possible some return.

I will reserve my frustration until we actually know. Which will be awhile I think

Not like that. It was basketball related and it's more about what he felt he needed to do (have the ball all the time) and what was best for team. Maxey was the best driver on the team. He was also starting to get easier looks for teammates because his drives were more feared by opponents. Hagans also had people in his ear telling him what he needed to do which was the last thing he will ever need to do to appeal to Pro scouts.

Mistake players make in college is thinking they need to be showing they can do things they aren't strong at. Hagans best selling point is being a defensive monster, guy who racks up assists and make the simple plays--layups/dunks,ft's and it shouldn't be hard to improve hitting wide open jumpers. Doesn't need to be a Quickley like shot maker to be improved.

Other mistake is too many people around players talk to them like they are going to be Franchise players. 90% of guys in NBA are role players. Master your role and you'll find a spot. Think you are going to be who teams play through and you'll be learning the music of Bjork in Iceland as you ponder whether returning to Kentucky and accepting coaching and role would've been better then doing it your way.

Like a couple others have said, thank you for the posts, love them, very informative and I learn something every time you post. With that said, I focused on your last sentence, "looking to add". I feel that you have some information to share along that front. No information that we'll hold you to but your personal thoughts on our big man situation. We all know EJ isn't the answer and he probably leaves anyway, yet Cal doesn't seem to be overly concerned about it like us fans are. Could you elaborate on that? Is Cal feeling Ware and Jackson can hold it down with the absurd talent on the wings OR is he confident or even pretty certain we're going to have a commit to fill that supposed void? Thanks

I like "Word on the street" Reminds of the old Police Squad show where Leslie Nielsen played a police detective and relied on the local shoe shine man to give him info on what was going on. He would sit in the chair and offer Johnny a $20 and ask him, "Whats the word on street Johnny." Who really knows, maybe Maxey was the bad egg in the group. We all know that something happened to Ashton late in the season. I would like to see him and EJ come back as they could both use 1-2 more years of working on their craft. I can't see EJ being anyone's list.

Clarke and Boston aren’t good shooters?
I don’t care if it’s blindfolded horse. You go 1 of 22 from three in something and you’re just not going to be a stellar guard at Kentucky. Good, maybe. But not stellar.

Sigh.Looks like trouble from 3 next year for this team if IQ leaves.

Yup.

Askew can shoot. Allen can shoot. Boston isn’t terrible. Hopefully Brooks improves. Really need Quickley back or a great shooter to transfer in. Clarke isn’t a great shooter and Fletcher is down right terrible (from what I have read).

Good news is Cal doesn’t rely heavily on the 3 point shot, so it probably doesn’t hurt our offense that much.

Clarke shot that from 3 at EYBL last summer.

Nope, that is what he shot during a 3 day event called Peach Jam. He shot like 32% last year on the Eybl circuit, which might be impressive considering that it would include a 1-22 stretch.

But the truth is, you cant really tell anything about how well a guy will shoot in college based on their high school careers. Several were supposed to be great and turned out average. Briscoe wins a 3 pt contest at an all star game and then proceeds to be one of if not the worst 3 pt shooter ever. Lamb wasnt supposed to be that good from deep, then he proceeds to post consecutive seasons above 40%. And hes not the only one that ended up better than expected. But there have been some that were worse as well. We will just have to wait and see.

Who did that?
Clarke did it in the Peach Jam.

And while other people clearly disagree, I worded my post like that for a reason. There are slumps and there are slumps, but you go 1 for 22 in *anything* over any time period and imo you ought not expect to rely on that skill here against high Div-1 competition who can make a whole career just by beating you. Especially not when the skill is perimeter shooting, which is a foot farther out here than at the Peach Jam.

Hope he proves me wrong. I wouldn’t mind.
