If Lofton comes to Rutgers,a current point guard likely would transfer.

People have stated that they think he'd be a starter here... He doesn't seem to be a really good shooter (40%FG, 28% 3PT this season).. Is it his playmaking ability or defense? I've never seen him play, and highlight videos don't paint the whole picture...

There is literally no way to know that whatsoever. We were intending to redshirt Jalen Miller last year and if there weren't available minutes in the backcourt this coming season (if someone like Lofton was in play), Miller could easily redshirt.

High basketball IQ. Clutch player. Off year shooting, but he's better than those numbers

That's the type of defensive minded player Pike loves, but you shouldn't have to learn how to shoot the rock in your freshman year in college...not good, sorry it's not the pro Pike narrative so many of you all love to hear.

If he is, he will develop into one.....if he doesn't, someone else will replace him and RU moves on......it's not overly complicated.
Hawk, the schoolie player needs to learn how to shoot the rock once he arrives in college.... that can't be good...can it?!?

Okay, thanks. I just noticed that during the previous season in '20-'21 he shot 41.4% FG and only 24% 3PT.. So he shot 33% 3PT in year one, 33.6% 3PT in year two, and then dropped off to 24% and 28% the next two years. He averaged about 38 minutes a game in all four years.. He suffered a high ankle sprain in December of the past season that caused him to miss some games, but I don't know if that affected his shooting at all during the rest of the season.

BIG IF.....I hope he comes, but we're up against it with a dozen + other solid programs. This is where Pike will earn his $$$ recruiting. Go Pike!!

From here forward Pike will not earn his money by turning this horrible program into a decent program.... He did that.

He will earn his money by turning this decent program into a consistent B1G and NCAA tourney team that wins games in both tourneys.

Yeah he's a mid-range shooter and slasher type with a good handle and quick hands on defense

Winning recruiting battles for highly sought after players usually results in positive results on the court.
If this player was being sought after by Cleveland state or Bowling Green - I'd our chances. We win those recruiting battles

I would love to have Kyle Lofton but it's really hard for me to see how we're an appealing destination compared to the rest of that list. All of those schools are looking for a full-time PG while we have Mulcahy and Simpson on the roster (and Miller) and all except Kansas State are on our level or better.

Kid most likely headed to Purdue as of today but recruiting turns on a dime. Had a kid that had an announcement scheduled to verbal toRU from same high school. Kid took an over night to a rival and called Union Catholic Coach Sunday AM and told him he was not going to RU but to our rival. Kids are fickle and are kids. No parental guidance here.

Simpson and Miller wouldn’t take a second of playing time away from lofton on this year. Every P5 team has players like those.

The roster is 13 and most teams play 9, maybe 10. For most teams, 3 never see the court. Playing in garbage time in some OCC games is not very valuable. So yes, some do and should redshirt.

The hate for Jalen Miller is perplexing. His role was to apply pressure defense in 2-3 minutes spurts. He filled it well. He is fast so to think that he would not be able to use that speed next year to get into the lane is naive. Some guys just need confidence and then they increase their role.

So what, he did not shoot in those 3 minute spurts. A guy like Caleb McConnell played 30+ minutes per guy and only took 5 shots per game.....but, here are some complaining because Miller did not shoot in his 3 minute spurts....😀

Yes but not multiple ones at the exact same position that they're recruiting in the portal. Purdue doesn't have any PGs right now for instance.

If Rutgers gets lofton he’s probably playing 30 minutes a game. Baker had a similar game and didn’t have to give mulcahy his minutes.

I have no reason to believe that Lofton is considering Rutgers, but if he was he would start from day one. He is very talented.

If we can land Lofton - it'll restore some hope in me, that we're not about to become Northwestern

Northwestern brining back 3 honorable mention big ten players? I didn’t know that.
Eh. Does anybody really expect us to be more than half decent? We lose those 3 after this season - then its the Dean Rieber and Jalen Miller show. That's when we'll officially be Northwestern

So you’re assuming we get no recruits the next two years? Lol so dumb. Also Paul and spencer will have 2 years left to bridge the gap.
What's dumb is you making up stuff up. Where did i say we wouldn't get recruits? Miller, Reiber, Mag, Palmqusit, Simpson and Woolfolk - are all recruits. Im confident we can add a few more guys like that. I see it as a Northwestern level group though

What a sad post. If you're so pessimistic after 3 of the best years we've had in decades why do you even watch Rutgers basketball?
I've been watching long before we became good, not gonna stop watching because I'm expecting a performance dip on the horizon
