Id think so. Thats the only good option for medical eval and a potential road to being a first rounder again. The Carter Stewart route doesnt really make sense for him. And an Indy team isnt going to care about his arm

He has to have signed with an agent already, making him ineligible to return, right?

College baseball players can sign with an agent and not lose eligibility

So if he doesn't sign, does he go back to Vandy?

Yeah, he should have 2 more years of eligibility left due to COVID. So he’ll still have another leverage year. Looks like he may be the first ever 3-time first round pick in 2022.

ETA: I’m an idiot….forgot he went in the 38th round out of HS since he told teams he was college bound.

I hate it for our team, but it should be an exciting battle for the SEC title next year.

Well, we've already beaten him on the biggest stage and in the ultimate match up for college baseball, so I'm pretty sure we can handle that challenge next year. Are they on our regular season schedule next year?

I have to believe this is partly due to seeing leiter go #2 and getting more $$ than him.

Carter Stewart pitches in Japan for anyone wondering. Braves lowballed him outta the major leagues completely.

This should be a warning. Pitch counts matter. No matter how you shake it, Rocker was overused in his career at Vandy. If 2020 hadn’t ended prematurely, he’d have already been injured, his arm was sore at that point and he’d missed some time.

It’s almost like 160 pitches in a game is NEVER a good thing, right?

Don’t even get me started on what Pat Casey did to Kevin Abel.

Bottom line, if you’re a first/second rounder out of high school, you have to sign.

If he was smart he would transfer out of that pitcher hell. I guess it is hard to leave the full ride. The Vandy coach don't give a **** about his health.

Right. He needs to go somewhere that protects pitchers' arms. Such as, well..... you know. ***

What a smart move by Carter Stewart. 21 years old, on a 6 year, $7 million dollar contract in Japan. Yeah college is fun, but sign me up for that any day.

I’m not sure he’s going to pitch in 2022. He can have surgery, if required, on Vandy’s dime and rehab at their facilities for free. Plus, without pitching he can maintain some additional leverage.

DOESN'T MATTER! If he doesn't sign, means he has physical issues and WON'T be a factor next year at Vandy!

And he never had any health issues either….so it seems the Braves fears were completely unfounded.

Agreed. Something is very very wrong with his arm for it to get to this point.

Or there’s something very wrong with the Mets negotiating tactics. Even if he required Tommy John tomorrow, you’re telling me that really changes his stock or his outlook? Hoglund was a still 1st rounder weeks after the surgery happened, signed practically for the slot value, and his potential is nowhere near Rocker’s by any expert estimation.

Either something is really bad with his arm (only the mets doctors felt this way, no other doctor did) or they were trying to low ball him and lost. The Mets are still paying Bobby Bonilla I believe, so maybe they were trying to save some moolah. Either way, I just don't understand not signing a pitcher who has been dominant in college who was cleared by other doctors. Worth the risk if you ask me.

How do you know that no other doctors felt that way? I thought I read that he didn’t provide/participate in a pre-draft MRI. Once the Mets drafted him and made him do the MRI is when they discovered whatever bothered them.

Rocker's agent doesn't make any of his players available for pre-draft physicals and they've said that every other Dr. who's examined him found no issues. Not sure I completely believe that. He clearly lost some velocity and wasn't the same pitcher the last half of last season.
