Just as we expected, DSJ was paid to attend State.

It'll get real interesting once the Nike schools are released. I refuse to believe other coaches don't know about this and are "shocked" by the probe.

As long as we left no evidence that we were aware of any payments that Nike’s agents made to our players, I think it turns out fine for us. I feel like at least a few of our players got some cash through a third party, because supposedly everyone was getting paid. I just hope the coaches stayed out of it.

Are you for real? "As long as we left no evidence...." "...at least a few of our players got some cash...." Damn dude, that's a very cynical take. Welcome to my Ignore List.

Duke wouldn't be in trouble if the players received money from the shoe companies, unless they collaborated with the companies (highly, highly doubt). KU won't be in trouble for Adidas giving money to Josh Jackson. NCSU will be in trouble since Gottfried worked with Adidas to secure the commitment of DSJ.

Him saying "at least a few of our players got some cash" could be true and probably is the way these reports are going saying basically every top recruits gets paid from secondary sources.

Well we already know Adidas, not Kansas, paid Josh Jackson.

In this report, Silvio de Sousa is definitely one of them and the other is either Billy Preston or Marcus Garret
Great Duke yet again lost to a team in the elite 8 that might end up getting vacated. SMH!

Well first off, doesn't matter if Duke knew, any games played with an ineligible player would be vacated. Maybe you meant sanctions, in which case, yeah, those wouldn't apply.

And second, I'll be shocked if any of our recruits / their families are implicated in anything intentional and knowingly against the rules.

We'll see but I'm not the least bit nervous.

If it can be proven the school didnt know, this happened before college and the players are no longer there, nothing will be vacated. See Corey Maggette.

ESPN finally reporting. KU is calling itself a victim in the article....
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...adidas-executive-fbi-college-basketball-probe

Not the first time KU has had some shenanigans with players. Billy Preston and Silvio De Sousa are allegedly the players in question. Preston had some issues this season (let's call it "car trouble" and sat until he left). KU had to have known some shady stuff may have been going on.

100% incorrect. The rules became much stricter after the Cam Newton debacle of "my parents did it, i had no clue"

Wanna good laugh. This is from a random Woofie on one of their boards.

"Who cares if it's not a good look. I have been a NC State fan for over 50 years(yes I am old). I am tired of effing losing. So we cheated, why the hell wouldn't we cheat with what we have to compete with???? Two of the biggest cheating programs in America. Hell, I am glad we finally stepped up and tried to get on the same level with UNC and Duke. So we look bad????????? Okay, now we are joining the elite of big schools that look bad. UNC, Duke, Michigan ST., Ohio St. Penn St, USC, Auburn, and the list goes on and on. In today's world if you don't cheat you are going to lose. I want to win something of importance just one more time before I die, so I don't think my school is bad, I just think they are trying to survive in today's world."

So would you describe yourself / UNC as the pot or the kettle?

Honestly, if I want a good laugh I just think about your athletes being so dumb they had to cheat to pass classes at UNC.

At least he owns the cheating and doesn’t deny any wrongdoing. Grow up.

If De Sousa hasn’t already declared for the draft then you know that he will be pushed to very quickly. It’s a lot easier to handle this for KU public relations if the player is gone to the NBA.

So which other shoe company is paying players? This article says at least one of them is....

"In August 2017, the indictment alleges, the second Kansas player's legal guardian informed the consultant that the player had received illicit payments to attend a school sponsored by one of Adidas' rivals. The guardian told the consultant that the student-athlete was more interested in attending Kansas, but would need to repay payments from the rival apparel company in order to do so.
The second player announced he would enroll at Kansas on Aug. 30, 2017, according to the indictment, and on Sept. 11, 2017, Gatto was informed by the unidentified Adidas consultant that he would need to make "another $20,000 payment" to the player's guardian to help the student-athlete "out from under" the deal to sign with the other school."

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...adidas-executive-fbi-college-basketball-probe

Shady as F.....

But it's interesting too. What would have happened if they had not repaid the other apparel company (assuming they did replay them as the article suggests)? Would they be outed? Would violence occur? This sounds very mafioso.

Or maybe, they thought paying the other company back was the ethical thing to do. LOL

None of this should be any surprise to anyone. This has been going on for decades in different forms. The one thing, as a Duke fan, that I take comfort in, is it always seems to circle around Adidas and their circle of schools, agents, runners, etc. "Adidas kids" end up at Adidas schools. Granted I don't follow recruiting as closely as others, but I've never heard the term "Nike kid" or "Under Armour kid".

Is Duke guilty of playing players that got money? It's possible. But, in my homer mind, I'd like to believe that Duke sells these players and families on foregoing the 5-6 figure payday up front for the coaching, training and connections they'll receive by coming to Duke and the value that will have to them upon entering the NBA. One thing I've seen in Duke players and families is, there are no dummies. These families are smart enough to see the value in coming to Duke without getting paid.

One thing is undeniable (at least to me), if the kid and family is getting big $ (5-6 figures), the coaches know about it. They spend too much time with these kids to not know. Not to mention that they are all control freaks and keep a finger on everything that goes on in their program. There may be plausible deniability, but they know. Well, except Rick Petino. That guy doesn't know anything about anything that goes on in his program(s).

So speaking of the Cheaters, I've been thinking/wondering who triggered the need for facilitating easy/no-show classes? I can't help but speculate it started with Rasheed Wallace. This article from the Washington Post states that Wallace had an SAT Score of 690 (https://www.washingtonpost.com/arch...10a-8358-7b2f7b9d2e6b/?utm_term=.9f1d1ff99d82). Impressive.
It started way before then. I had friend whose dad's car dealership loaned cars to players in the 80's

That "guardian" sounds like a pimp more than a guardian. Being a pimp, 1) I would take what he said as 90% bs and 2) that player went to the highest bidder and 3) any money that was taken from other schools (if any) was pocketed.

Kinda makes me want to go watch Blue Chips again. Shaq and Penny give us a good idea of what goes on with these kids.
