How do you know WVU didn't improve? They beat JMU barely after getting outplayed most of the game. Going on the road against a P5 team with top 25 talent is a significant tougher challenge. Maybe a JMU level performance gets the Mountaineers trounced by 50+. Maybe holding the offense scoreless in the second half is an improvement. Honestly a coach walking into the dumpster fire situation the previous coach left us in can't truly be judged in the first season. I'd say by season 3 you can make judgements. Team may not have arrived after 3 seasons, but you have a record of evolution to judge if the team is moving in the right direction. Last 2 WVU head coaches had a worse team in their 3rd year than what they started their first year with.
