I mean major props because he had an incredible season but I am a statistics nerd basically. He was 12 1. 11 saves. 131 ks walked 18. Era.0.90. Yes incredible but in 30 innings less thrown. Sims 5 0 13 saves. 100 ks 15 walks. Same competition. I mean I’m not just blowing smoke but sims was more dominant in 30 innings behind. . Only reason era was inflated was the sec tournament

Sims threw 56 innings, so 30 more innings would be a 50% increase. To me, there is a little context rather than just saying Sims only threw 30 less innings. With that said, Sims had a pretty similar season. His ERA is a little higher but the WHIP is about the same. K/9 is obviously way better for Sims. Both have impressive walk numbers but Kopps with only 18 in 90 IP is very good. Sims would probably not be too far from that though.

All that to say, I got no problem with Kopps winning it. He had a hell of a year. I think we just used Sims in more of a traditional closer role, which obviously worked out well and was the right call.

But the fact Kopps threw so many innings is part of the reason he got the award. He basically was a one man staff

Just a product of how the two pitchers were managed.

Sims made eight fewer appearances than Kopps even though we played five more games than Arkansas. Had we run Landon out there 2-3 times a weekend every weekend like they used Kopps, he clearly would've been in the discussion for this award too. But we played the long game, and were even conservative with him in Omaha when you look back at the game we lost to Texas. But we benefited from having him fresh when it mattered.

Arkansas was simply too dependent on Kopps, he bailed them out time and time again all the way through the Super Regional. But in the deciding game, he gave them 8 quality innings and 115 pitches and they sent him back out for the 9th when he didn't have anything left in the tank. And it cost them their season.

I'm as big of a fan of Sims as any, but you can't compare head to head by simple extrapolation. That's roughly 10-15 more games Sims would've needed to pitch (at his current rate) to make up that 30 innings. His track record says he would've continued as projected--likely surpassing Kopps' totals, but Kopps' record shows the hard stats with no projection needed.

I'm going to go with Sims is more Dominant, but Kopps was deserving of the GS award. He was great this year and is good at missing barrels, but not as good as Sims at missing bats.

Congratulations. He was a rented mule on a team without pitching depth and was able to withstand the abuse. He wore his arm out and it got him a consolation trophy. I am quite sure Sims would not trade places with kopps.

I wouldn't really call only giving up 3 runs over 9 innings a letdown. That's still a very good pitching performance.

If anything the Arkansas offense failed him - three runs should be enough to win the game when you're averaging about 7 runs a game through the whole season. Offense completely fell off a cliff the last few weeks of the season.

By letdown I mean: 9th inning, tie ballgame, give up the go ahead HR that is the difference in the game. Up until that point in the year, Kopps was a guarantee in that situation.

From a stats standpoint, he pitched a heck of a game. But he still got credited for the L and the season ended as a result--So I'd call that a letdown.

That does not factor in the offense failing to show, just purely based on Kopps' end result. Any game can be traced back to miscue here, miscue there, but the go ahead HR was the scale tipper--and that's on Kopps' arm.

Kopps performance in the Supers was hardly a letdown. Actually it was the hitting that let Arkansas down. He gave them every chance to win. Even with his last inning. Im glad Kopps won instead of Leiter or Rocker. He had an unreal season. Sims was great too.
