FWIW, their 247 premium board is not very optimistic. Not only that folks in the Illinois circles are saying its crickets on their side concerning Kofi.

That 2nd piece of info is from someone who is involved in recruiting circles.

FYI, I do not have an account on their board but know people who do.

So, while he may return there I find it interesting some guy on the radio says what he said while the above sources are I the dark.
well, they been sooo wrong in the past, if that holds true... he is back to orange.
why? I have no idea

That's what you said about Coach Antiqua and Coach Coleman.
I would like to know why a player would put their name in the transfer portal and then come back. Why bother doing that if your plan was to go back to your original school. On top of that, why schedule your announcement just to return? Doesn't add up to me. How many players in the portal have come back to their original school?

Cal let Antigua and Chin know that you’re not to coming to Kentucky unless you bring Cockburn.

I think if we get Cockburn, we are looking at this kind of split in minutes at the 4 and 5 (80 minutes total):

Cockburn- 25
Tshiebwe-20
Brooks- 20
Collins- 15

At least to start the year. As Collins gets acclimated to the college game, he might see more time, but remember he has three grown men in front of him. All three are Juniors. All three are former 5-star players. Collins will have to be pretty good to take their minutes. I am not that high on Brooks, but he has the experience edge, so he gets the benefit of the doubt until we see what Collins can do in college.

And for those who don’t think that’s enough minutes for the big guys, Cockburn averaged 27mpg at Illinois and Tshiebwe averaged 22mpg at WVU, so that’s on par with what they are use to. Fatigue and foul trouble will keep them from getting 30+mpg.

I haven't listened to Jack Pilgrim's podcast but some said it sounded like Kofi was coming here and Oscar isn't happy.
I listened and did not hear it that way. I understood them to say UK was confident, but did not know if Kofi was coming and the majority of players were all in for bringing him in but it may not be unanimous. No mention was made about Oscar’s feelings.

Toppin? He's 6'10 and possibly ahead of Brooks and Collins.

If we use your numbers, and assume Kofi absolutely cannot play anything but the 5, that leaves 15 minutes at the 5 for Oscar.

So we're looking at 5 minutes of them on the court together.

The other 20 of Kofi's minutes can have Brooks at the 4, and Collins alongside Oscar as the rim protector when Kofi is on the bench.

As someone who has been skeptical and hesitant about the fit, seeing it broken down like that works nicely. Good post.

Guess that puts Toppin at the 3 exclusively though.

I could see Cal
I think Toppin slides to the 3, if Cockburn comes.
I could see Cal playing Toppin or Brooks some at the 3 but neither are great shooters and that would go against him saying he was going to put more shooters on the floor. Just Washington with Grady or Mintz is not doing that and when Wheeler is in there would almost have to be a 3 guard lineup in the game.

I think so. Toppin backs up Grady. The downside to that is Allen probably won’t see the court at all.

I don't think Toppin is good enough to relegate Allen to 0 minutes. Maybe it depends on matchups or what the team needs when it's time for the sub.

If we have one of the bigs (obviously), Wheeler at point, and a below average shooter like Brooks/Collins, Allen is a better choice.

If one of the 4s proves to be a solid shooter, TyTyv is at the point and either Mintz/Frederick, then Toppin makes the most sense.

Toppin is the better choice between him and Brooks at the 3 spot. Toppin is the better defender (especially on the perimeter), better ball handler, and the better shooter. Grady will be the starter at the 3 and Toppin will back him up. That’s my guess.

Grady will be your starter at the 3 spot and he is a great shooter.

It gets to a point where something has to give. If we get Cockburn, then Allen moves down the pecking order. I have him as 11th on the roster with Cockburn. Cal might play 11 at the start of the season, but that won’t last all season.

Not good. Cal has to manage his roster. He gets paid millions to deal with egos and make it work. Time to man up and do his job.
You’re right if that is the case he should dissect Oscars brain and make him be ok with it.

Naw, you don’t have to resort to surgery. A little psychology should do the trick. I’m a teacher and have to do this kind of thing on a daily basis. A room filled with 30 kids, not everyone is going to like everyone else all the time. I make a fraction of what Cal makes and manage twice as many kids at a time. He needs to handle it or find another line of work. This is what coaches and teachers and managers and supervisors do everyday.

Do you enter the transfer portal AND set an announcement date to go back to your current school? Just doesn't make any sense.
Unless you’re an attention *****. I’m not saying he is but that would be something a guy might do if he was.

I can't see Kofi or Oscar playing the PF spot on any type of regular rotation, they are both pure 5's (imho) and neither player could guard the 4-spot in Cal's man-to-man. If Cal zones you might give them a little more time together.

My guess Starters and Backups:

C- Kofi 20-25 minutes, Oscar 15-20 minutes, Ware 0-5 min, Collins 0-5 minutes.
PF - Toppin 20-25 min, Brooks 5-10 min, Collins 0-5min, Hopkins 0-5 min, Oscar 0-5 min, Ware 0-5 min.
SF - Grady 10-15 min, Brooks 10-15 min, Fredrick 5-10 min, Allen 0-5 min, Hopkins 0-5 min, Toppin 0-5
SG - Mintz 15-20 min, Grady 10-15 min, Fredrick 5-10 min, TyTy 0-5 min, Allen 0-5 min
PG - TyTy 20-25 min, Wheeler 10-15 min, Mintz 5-10 min

By Minutes Played:
1. TyTy 20-30 min
2 Grady 20-30 min
3. Mintz 20-30 min
4. Toppin 20-30 min
5. Kofi 20-25 min
6. Brooks 15-25 min
7. Oscar 15-25 min
8. Fredrick 10-20 min
9. Wheeler 10-15 min
10. Allen 0-10 min
11. Collins 0-10 min
12. Hopkins 0-10 min
13 Ware 0-10 min
