I've had a bad feeling for about a week that we would miss out on both Kofi and Duren.

I feel even stronger about it now.

Ok in today's world you can give a virtual tour of campus easily. However like another poster stated we recruited him out of HS and I think he did visit.

The number announcement. It's not like they are permanently printing posters or the catspause yearbook. They made an easily adjustable Twitter announcement

The Illini buzz. If I can recall the misdirection stuff may be OA's MO. Randal was a Kansas lock and several others. As well as his own leaving UI. If Kofi is still living in Illinois be a good way to keep the local heat off of u.

Why a quick announcement. To me if you were going to return to the program you know why not drag it out get a few trips for free and get the wine and dine treatment. You already know the system and the players. However if I was leaving then I might want to get to a new program as quickly as I can to start getting associated.

Never underestimate AO influence in his actions it would be very likely he may be asking advice on how to handle it. I find it odd that when he first entered the portal and withdrew it was a day or 2 after UK was the favorite that going back to Illinois was his second option but I guess we will all see soon

I hope we get him. It doesn’t look good for us and Duren.

It seems like every season, we miss on that “last piece to the championship puzzle.”

It’s about time we get that piece. We are way overdue.
It is possible that things don't look for us and Duren could be the staff told Duren we would be getting Kofi. Speculation but would explain the coolness all of a sudden

Wasn't he supposed to setting up visits to some colleges? What ever happened to that?
The only way he was going to be able to take actual visits to schools was going to be if schools decided to skip a live period. With the NCAA being in a dead period kids aren't allowed to take college visits in most circumstances.

May not have felt the need to visit here. He may already have when we were recruiting him out of HS. It makes sense if you were going somewhere new and you already knew where to want to get there as quickly as possible

Everybody quit talking about visits because he’s unable to visit any school since it’s a dead period.

I'm trying to remain optimistic, but I don't feel good about the situation given he didn't even visit us.
I’ve never been to the Playboy Mansion, but if Heff (RIP) called me to offer me a room to rent there, I’d Venmo the security deposit before we hung up the phone.

As soon as I cleared it with my wife, of course.

I’ll be very surprised if he goes anywhere but Lexington
If he doesn't have visits set up by now, he's not leaving Illinois. I wish we could monitor door and airplane tsil numbers, but alas. It seems he just wanted the pub.

There would be more UK fans viewing his announcement them Illinois fans. So wouldn't that work better if he was going to UK?
Sure, if he was coming to UK. But, the question asked why would he set an announcement date only to return to Illinois. Exposure and energizing his market base.

Illini “insider” on STL radio just said he’s being told Kofi is returning to Illinois. No clue who the guy is or if he really knows anything but that’s what he is saying.
I heard their insiders say, “Coach O isn’t going, Coach Chin isn’t going, okay just Coach O is going, okay Coach O went but we retained Chin, okay Coach O and Coach Chin both went, but I have sources that say Kofi isn’t going.”

I’m not feeling confident about Kofi announcing without visiting us, but I also don’t think Illini insiders are very connected.

Of course I hope he picks us. But, this is icing on the cake either way that the decision is happening soon. It's not like the cupboard is bare in the slightest. But, if he truly wants to improve it should be an obvious decision to come and face Oscar in practice every day and be challenged (plus same for Oscar). It is hard to continually get better if there isn't competition. In fact, sometimes facing someone as good or better than yourself is the best way to learn.

True, but he said he was going to take some visits last week...I think he got his offer to stay at Ill

The lack of a visit means nothing to me. But hearing he meet over Zoom with Kentucky coaches one night, Kentucky puts out a video of team numbers the next day, and he sets an announcement for Friday does not at all sounds good to me. And I’m usually an eternal optimist.

Yeah, me too.

Outside the obvious three--2010, 2012, 2015--I like this roster as much or better than anything Cal has assembled at UK.

Highly interesting team. With Cockburn and barring injury I think they're right there with anybody in the nation.

Agree. I mean there is no Wall, Cousins, Davis, or Towns. But I think 3-13 this group is maybe the best we've had, or as good. And while Cockburn is not the pro prospect of Cousins or Towns, college-wise he may be as good or better.

Then the question is, if we add Kofi, how do him and Oscar fit together? I think unless we zone it may be difficult to have them on the court at the same time a lot, maybe at most 5-10mpg. But you could play each alone 15min, and then together 10, and they both get 25.
Well 2nd question, if Fredrick is back in time, how do we not platoon? In which case, if not an even (20/20) platoon, does that mean Oscar limited to 16-18mpg. Wow!
