I don't know the details of how these calls are made but the explanation by the rules analyst (theoretically independent) endorsed the decision. But nothing will soothe the heartbreak of Croatia and its fans.

Alexi Lalas, Carli Lloyd rip USMNT following ‘disappointing’ World Cup exit

Ironic Lalas is ripping the USA when he was the head cheer leader in over hyping them. The USA had a good tourney And round of 16 is about right for them. I think the red card controversy really hyped up Belgium; they even did the Trump dance after their fourth goal.

Amid all the over-hype for the men's team, they are a mid major when it comes to playing the Europeans. Seems we have really good athletes, but Europeans have really good soccer players. And thought Carli Lloyd was an odd studio choice for USA games.

We do have some good soccer players as well, but we have some major holes that prevent is from getting results against better teams, primarily on the defensive side. We really only have 1 defender that I would call "good" and goalkeeper position is a complete disaster. We saw it last night as Belgium really didn't have to work hard for any of their goals.

The underdog teams that are getting results against or are at least putting a scare into superior opponents do it with elite defense and then perhaps stealing a goal on the counter or a set piece. That's how the US did it also back in an era where they occasionally picked off a giant. This new attack oriented USMNT is more entertaining to watch and will probably generate more consistent results against lesser opponents, but it's tougher to beat better teams that way.

I am not sure of the quality of the US players. They have athletes who are big, strong and run fast. That is why the US can beat teams. But they lack technical skill. This shows up when they start to play teams in the top 12. This why they look lost when they play the top teams.

I am not sure what players you think are good beside Pulisic. But one of the US players that actually had technical skill was left off the team in Diego Luna. I would have liked to see him in the midfield.
In the end, the US needs better players and not rely on athleticism so much.

I disagree with you. The Argentinian player first knocks the ball away from Salah.the ball then goes behind Salah He then goes for the ball. It’s not a foul.
If he caught Salah after the ball in the same action, I would agree with you but that's not the case. He gets a clean touch on the first action, but then reached back for in for a second kick at it that trips Salah and doesn't get the ball.

It's definitely soft, but so was the one they called back Egypt's goal for. A complication here is that given the location of the incident, there was no way to call back the goal for a foul without also giving Egypt a penalty.

Pulisic is WAY OVERRATED!!
He's OK for us now but an absolute nobody special on a Top 12 team.
He was putrid and missing for most of this World Cup.
Forget about Pulisic, he is not an important part of our future. We need MUCH BETTER than him.
Priority #1, Retain Head Coach.

Honestly Diego Luna did not deserve to be on the team and he’s average at best. Who is he getting in over? Pulisic can no longer be the face of the team. And what other players are good beside Pulisic? mckennie who had a much better season in the serie A than Pulisic, and is routinely one of the top players on Juventus. Jedi Robinson when healthy is an every game starter in the premier league. Dest is the most purely skilled player on the team and I am hugely disappointed with his performance vs Belgium.

The thing that hurts the development of USA players is the fact they cannot get training on European teams because of the EU rules.
