Lot of bitching about the Raider band not performing last week at the WR game but last night they put on a show during halftime that really kept the Raider faithfuls engaged. The atmosphere was electric.
Go Big Red!!!!!!!!!

A lot is written about how SP lacks speed and athleticism. We may not have the number of pure athletes that some teams do. I was extremely impressed by the athleticism of the Merchant kid from KM, but every time that he went deep our soph Alexander ran with him stride for stride. The punt return by Mead was both a highly athletic catch and run. The 1st pick by Starr was a highly athletic play. As a team, no matter where KM ran or passed the ball, there were multiple Raiders making plays. Proud of our so-called slow, un-athletic midgets.

Yes, it's a shame the band director decided he wanted to take a weekend off last week during a playoff game. How many other high school bands would relish the opportunity to play in that environment? Such a waste and totally irresponsible on his part.

From what I understand, he was out of town visiting family, not just taking the weekend off. While I hate there was no band for the 3rd round game, Thanksgiving and Christmas are sometimes the only opportunities as you never know when it will be the last time you see someone. Just last week, a friend of mine lost her cousin from a massive heart attack, a church family lost their nephew and 14 people in San Bernardino will not be here for Christmas/Hanukkah. In 2010, the Christmas Day snow kept me from spending it with my mother; one month later she died. Yes, I got to spend New Years with her, but it wasn't the same.

Touching story but we have also heard that the band was in Florida last week playing in a bowl game. Also heard the band was run off the field during practice because they were tearing up the field so the band director got a case of chapped a$&. The point is they are all good stories but none of them are legit to skip a playoff game. If your story is correct (and I say IF) there are assistants that could have the band there anyway. You penalize the whole band for yourself? Come on, get real.

Do you think the football team would forfeit the game and not play if ML had a family emergency? That's the difference between dedication and prima dona.

I heard it from Charlie Martin last night on the radio but can't believe anyone in the media today.

No slam on Charlie but you got that right concerning the media. You never know if that is the story the school wanted put out there in an attempt to mininize the colleteral damage from that PR fiasco last week.

PR fiasco?? After listening to the CD version from the visitor's side and watching and listening to the real version from the home side, it's a push at best . Was that the "Pride of the Tribe's" actual halftime show? They got in a pyramid and played some music. The color guard danced out of step or freestyle (being nice). And on their last number, the drum majors and a few band members attempted, and screwed up, a dance succesfully done by drunk people at weddings throughout the country. As for the color guard with no flags, those girls just halfway dance and let mr. showtunes show them up. I hope that was just a freestyle deal for the band to "EXPRESS" themselves and not their actual halffime show. If not, then that was the fiasco. People near me were laughing and everyone was focused on danceman. I'll take the CD version everytime.

As for the important part, the football team, they impressed me more than ever. They have lost to two very good teams, and for that, there is nothing to be ashamed of. South Pont has a strong team in 3A. I think they've got it next week without knowing anything about RM.
