We're still in Phase 2 for another 5 weeks. This means bars and gyms still can't open up. However, breweries have been churning along for months now. What is the difference between breweries and bars? They make the alcohol on site, does that make it less covid-y? Or are they donate more money to King Cooper? The arbitrary decisions that have been made are not founded on science. It's founded in politics.

Do you read the articles you post? A brewery might not host on site drinking while selling kegs and growlers for take out. Also a brewery or brew pub probably isn't a private bar which is being singled out.

According to the North Carolina Bar and Tavern Association, 85 percent of establishments with bars in the state have been allowed to reopen. This includes restaurants with bars, wineries, breweries, and more. However, 1,063 private bars are still not allowed to open up.

I don't have to read, I live here. Duh.

Anywhere that serves food was allowed to open. That was the majority of those open.

However, the big Asheville breweries have been open the entire time. It's no different than a private bar scene. The wineries have been open too, you know, the liberal snobbish type. A majority of those don't serve food. Why do they get a pass?

I think tarheel’s point is, alcohol has been proven to be as effective in treating Covid-19 as hydroxychloroquine, so there is a real need to get bars open and crammed with drunks.

There's a big difference between bars and bars that serve food. Where I live, there are several true bars that kept getting shut down because customers crammed around the bar to get drinks and nobody paid any attention to distancing VERSUS a bar that serves food and customers are seated at well-distanced tables.

That's the way I readed your post.

BTW - I understand bar/restaurant guidance....gyms don't make sense to me. Do people workout on top of each other? This seems like an easy business/activity for distancing. Movie theaters? That biz should have died off YEARS ago.

The wineries around here are very much liberal-ish, except for Childress. He's going for the redneck wine drinkers.
