All of the “Spencer can’t play defense” crowd should take notice - this kid is a player on both sides of the floor.
I get it’s the first game and it’s only Columbia but this kid may have been a fantastic pick up for us. He sees the floor very well, is all over the place, doesn’t give the ball away and he’s ready to shoot before the ball is even in his hands.

He's the best shooter we've had since Douby. You can already see that in one game. I don't care if it was Columbia.

He can also pass. Team guy. I don't know who was saying he can't play D but that's just wrong.

He's exactly what you need in a grad transfer. Exactly. Especially on this team. His stroke is purrrrre.

People just say ****. Spencer was always well regarded in terms of his defense and Pike said he anticipates passes really well on the defensive end and that’s why he had a lot of steals at Loyola.

Spencer ignited the whole team. Shooting like that got everyone’s Adrenalin up. That is the kind of player we have needed. This could be fun guys. I know it is only one game so tap the brakes a little but that kind of shooting is something we have not seen here in. Long time. When he gets hot, wow.

I watched highlights Loyola(Md) against UNC last year and some good mid majors programs He can hang at the high major level. It was the perfect replacement as a go to scorer for RHJ. There was a reason why he was considered 4⭐ transfer portal guy.
Cam scoring against UNC on non threes was always a very bullish signal

Cam is the best all around player on the team. He does everything well.

Defensively he has very quick hands, sees the game remarkably well, and gets into passing lanes at an elite level

There is still some question on how he will hold up against B1G top level quick guards on ball defense, but no matter what, his positives will outweigh any issue there if it is one

I was one who felt he might struggle on D. I know it's just Columbia but so far I'm wrong. His hands, esp. on help D situations, are amazing!

He was amazing. Greatest thing about him is he is so far from a me first guy that sometimes it’s annoying to watch him pass it, you almost wish he was more aggressive. But it’s huge to have a go to scorer who is a well rounded player also

True but staying in front of big ten guards is very different then what we saw tonight

That's why I said they weren't Michigan. Defense isn't always just footspeed. It's anticipation and vision. He clearly has those things.

6 steals in a college game is big time though. He may not do that against Ohio St. but it's still one helluva a night.

I've been in NJ for a few months visiting and was at the game tonight.

Cam Spencer IS A PLAYER. Crafty as hell, anticipation on D is off the charts. Can't wait to see him and McConnell on the court together.

This will be a better defensive team than last year.
That combination will be absolutely deadly!

Not much I can add other than I was very impressed with his vision and passing when RU was at my end of the floor. Overall, really happy about how the team responded to that crappy stretch when nothing was falling.

There was a time where we could not identify a "floor general" for our team. Not one. Then came Geo. And now... we may have more than 2 on this team. How great is that? One gets injured.. or gets in foul trouble... or just needs a "blow".. we have legit backup as floor general. Well, it looks like that after 1 game against poor competition.

And why this will be Pike’s best team

Its early days but man, you have to love the potential of this team. We have some size, multiple options at guard, and play D like always. Caleb will make it even more lockdown when he returns.

Now we have some outside shooting and more depth. Hopefully this team can get better and better as the season goes on like Pike teams always have.

It’s legit to wonder how Cam will do against athletic tight on ball defenders. But he also seems like a crafty guard that will play much better once he gels with the team.

Cam is a very good athlete. He was an all star in the best high lacrosse league in the country. He made the varsity golf team as a freshman in high school and was first team in basketball in a very good league. He was also first team all Patriot league. Watch his highlights against UNC. Not sure why those who hadn’t seen him play had all these pre conceived notions. The kid is an athlete.

That's what everyone has been saying since he committed but he scored a lot against UNC last year off the dribble in a game he didn't shoot the 3 well. He's so much more than a spot up shooter.

Cam is a coach's dream
He’s one of the few kids out there who doesn’t care about NIL. Heard he never asked about it during his recruitment.

Kids brother was one of the all time great college lacrosse players and after one year of hoops at Northwestern is now between the G league and getting runs with Golden State.

Still don’t understand why people were questioning his athletic ability. He’s not as fast as say JY but he’s plenty athletic.
