My takeaways:
Credit to King. Their RB is very good. A few solid OL too. QB is accurate with some slippery WRs. Big DL with speed at LB and in their secondary. They were well coached and didn’t make many mistakes.
This was a “boring” game offensively with many long drawn out drives. I believe there were only three total possessions in the first half.
The Vikings were in control almost the entire game and led 14-3 in the 4th quarter. King scored on a long pass. Then had a late drive to go up 15-14 with 30 seconds remaining. Unfortunately for King, their RB took a MASSIVE hit on the two point attempt and I wouldn’t be surprised if he misses some significant time or possibly the entire season. He did not look well being taken off. Could’ve been a leg injury, or concussion, or both.
As for the Vikings, this is a game they should have won. Moved the ball well on offense but couldn’t throw a knockout punch and made a few critical mistakes. Defensively, they again played well, but couldn’t get off the field at times. A lot of third down conversions for King they nickel and dimed the Vikings with their strong run game. The Vikings are YOUNG. A lot of junior starters with some soph starters and even a couple freshmen seeing significant playing time.
Hopefully a learning moment for the Vikings and credit to King for a good game.
