With each loss, anyone saying anything other than how awful Pope is gets mocked and ridiculed with increasing intensity. I know we are all frustrated with Pope (including me) but why can’t people just be kind to your fellow fans? Particularly, looking through the threads and seeing how others are getting treated is actually embarrassing. Mind you, I’m not defending posters that ridicule others for being anti-Pope — I’m defending people who follow every reasonable rule of engagement. I’m asking my friends who have had it up to here with Pope to just please be kind to your neighbor. Debate peacefully and kindly, y’all. Or don’t I guess.

I have read the boards for years before recently (last 2 months or so) signing up, I could always tell which posters got under others skin lol, however, just put the ones you don't agree with on ignore & be done with it, so much name calling over having a different opinion, I realize there's trolls also but the mods should be able to sniff them out & ban them. Do we even have mods on this new combined board?

Ortho, have you ever heard me go at anyone when Pope wins? I think there’s one poster that I’ve seen doing that and you can clearly see in my post that I’m not defending the aggressive ones who ask for a bloody feud. There’s people who are just posting unpopular opinions and getting bombarded. You’re a reasonable person, Ortho, even though we may disagree on many things. Try this exercise — when you see some of these posts that are simply expressing optimism and seeing all of the replies, choose to imagine each is saying the opposite and ask yourself if it’s fair engagement? It’s pretty obvious. There will always be debates and arguments on here and that’s something I personally love, as you know, but we don’t have to do it the way we’ve been doing it. This post is my attempt, as someone the board likely views as pro-Pope, to extend the olive branch and remind folks to simply be fair and neighborly. That’s all.

The problem is you are rational (and thoughtful) engaging on a no holds barred/toxic platform. Rafters lets anyone in, get banned, and let back in. A few people make multiple screen names just to sow discord. I think they get some satisfaction in making people upset. They are good at not crossing the line in order to not get banned (@mondaynitro).

It’s more about a principle. Let’s all be kind. I don’t know every single person’s full post history and you can certainly find posts from me, from you, or most anyone else that aren’t perfect. Especially when your opinion is held by 99% of the posters, if y’all can’t just be reasonable and kind to the people who disagree with that majority opinion, you’ll 1.) not have an interlocutor to have debate with, 2.) not get your opinions questioned to strengthen your own arguments, 3.) eventually discourage everyone from posting who doesn’t hold to the “groupthink.” I actually enjoy the company of this board and I want everyone to be able to raise their opinions here, as long as they aren’t disgraceful or morally impermissible. If you agree, we can all get along enough to not get along peacefully.

Steven Covey once said “seek first to understand, then to be understood.” I’d say if you genuinely wanted to know the rationale of someone who “supports Pope”, you could ask — the answers will range depending on who you ask, but the good news is it will not cause you harm to hear it. You may find someone actually is a troll —- there probably are some of those. You may also find others are grounded in reason and that might make debating with those people even more enjoyable.

I rarely posted on this forum during the last few years of Cal's tenure. It was so toxic and I had enough going on in my life that I didn't need more of that kind of crap. I had high hopes that with a new coach we could see a change in tone. Unfortunately, due to our current record that isn't the case.

You are correct. The personal attacks do come from those who have nothing of substance to argue. That is why I may take another break from the board if things don't get better. For now, I am looking forward to UK being back on top of the basketball world. It can't come soon enough for me!

Idiot I think you’ve said before you’ve never been on this board until very recently. Again, the board has posters, guys, that have been here 20+ years. Not sure you realize this but this board has been established for decades with many same posters. Sometimes conversations have different moving parts that you’re only seeing the surface. Guys like Nitro have been here under names like Cardsstink and many more. LED belly is a troll that argues both positions back and forth to start arguments. A lot of what you think you’re seeing, sometimes isn’t what’s going on. Led also has many handles and argues with HIMSELF back and forth lol.

A lot of us here go back to the wildcatchat days, I was in high school then, 2002. I just bring this up to say I’ve seen you interject into things that I could see you weren’t aware of why the conversation was taking place. I’m just saying there is so much under the surface that happens here and someone new isn’t going to get it. Also, Rafters is not a Facebook mom place. Mostly what you have here are hardened fans that aren’t going to be passive in losing. We don’t wish around, this was a place that winning was always mandatory so I don’t think you know this but you’ll never turn the tide of that. A hire like this, it’s not going to be a “let’s wait it out” rafters philosophy. It’s just not how this place operates. And it really shouldn’t be, either. There is a coach click here that’s always been back to the LOD days on the board. Time and time again they don’t care about wins and losses or program prestige. Again, these conversations with that minority have taken place decades. These conversations didn’t just start.
