My brother creatine level is at 6 and been on dialysis since May. We were hoping his Kidneys would be better by now. Kidney Doctor said he would feel like **** again if quit going to Dialysis. It helps him have more energy to work again but a time consuming process going 3 times a week for 4 hours each time. I am going to see if I am a Kidney transplant match. If things work he can get back to normal life. Will this speed things up from the normal waiting list process?

Had a neighbor several years ago who needed a transplant and was, amazingly, a match with his adopted son. The transplant went through quickly and successfully. Not to discourage you, but his son had a little harder recovery than he did, though they both eventually did great.

I know that I didn't really answer your question, from what I understand the waiting list times are unpredictable, and I have to think that bringing in your own donor would cut months, if not years, off the waiting time.

Your brother make any lifestyle changes. Don't want to give him a kidney to your detriment for him to keep living the lifestyle that caused the issue in the first place. My brothers are very obese and there's no way in hell I'd give them one. Nor would I ask for one.

Sorry to be morbid, but if your brothers kidneys are at that level… Stopping dialysis would mean he’ll be dead in a few weeks. I absolutely feel for anyone on HD, tough to live your life fully that way. The sooner he gets the transplant process going the better. It can take a long time in some cases, and rejection rates are better if you haven’t been on dialysis long term.

Sometimes dialysis is necessary due to lifestyle choices, but many times the issue is genetic or autoimmune related. Polycystic kidney disease and Lupus are common diseases that lead to it.

My brother had kidney transplant 15 yrs ago roughly. Alports disease. My sister donated. As mentioned above its harder on donors than receivers. Things went well unfortunately he needs another transplant now. Good luck

Yes, he rarely eats fast food anymore. Cooks his own healthy meals outside of 1 cheat day a week eating out with friends but is selective on what he eats. He has a nutritionist at the Dialysis clinic that gives him help on what he should and shouldn't eat. Is exercising more at least walking as much as possible when time allows. Takes his prescribed medication and goes to his dialysis treatments to try to get better.

The Doctors could not pinpoint how he got this disease. They kept asking him if he does illegal drugs and no he doesn't. It's speculation how this happened. Possibly, if he would have gone to see a Doctor sooner things not of escalated this far is my guess.

Yep, he has been told the possible worst-case scenario several times by his Kidney Doctor and staff at the Dialysis clinic. As much as he hates Dialysis he hasn't skipped one. Going 3 times a week 4 hours at a time is very time-consuming and misses out on things. Also, tough to work and do that after but is what it is.

Sorry for the tough news for your family.

100 years ago there were no options.

What an amazing age we live in, no?
