I’ve never heard of that before. I’ll certainly try it. I’ve had three operations for kidney stones in the past 15 years.

It’s helpful. The root was used by Indians to help with urinary issues. Google it and decide if it’s right for you. You really don’t have anything to lose but make sure you follow the directions on the bottle.

I've had four procedures done for stones in the last twenty years and having stent put in and it was most uncomfortable. Now I pass small ones with ease....lol

I've never had one but my wife had one last summer and said it was worse than child birth.

I had a nurse at a hospital say the same thing. The pain was overwhelming on my flank. They gave me a morphine shot and it didn’t touch the pain. The second morphine shot only took the edge off.

I've had two kidney stones in the past 10 years. First one I had scared the hell out of me because I got up and was passing blood but couldn't p-ss. Finally passed it that night and it felt as it someone was pulling barbed wire through me. Second one was about 6 years later and it had to be surgically removed. I would recommend finding a Urologist that would put you on the "kidney stone prevention program". The first thing is to find out just what kind of stones you have. My were called "oxalate" stones and my doctor narrowed it down to drinking black tea. I take Potassium Citrate twice a day, drink about 96 ounces of pure water a day and avoid certain foods. There are 9 foods that can cause oxalate stones and I was eating 7 of them; peanut butter, chocolate, strawberries, blackberries, spinach, black tea and almonds, just to name a few. Home remedies are ok but I would seriously recommend seeing a urologist just to determine what's causing them as most result from dietary issues. Good luck because I feel your pain.

In the emergency room with one a few years ago the doc gave me a list of foods that can cause kidney stones. It was all the foods that other dietitians, etc. say are good for you. Go figure.

Correct, no spinach, kale or dark berries, just to name a few. Potatoes are also on the list and they're supposed to be really bad. Wake Forest University has a listing of various foods and the oxalate count in each one. You'd be surprised at the findings.

My doctor told me to avoid chocolate and tea. He said if I had to drink soda, it should be citric-based like a Sunkist.

He said I should drink a gallon of water a day, which I do. He said take a gallon of water, pour out 4 oz. and replace with 4 oz. of lemon juice as best practice. I use to add lemon to my water all the time, now I have gotten lazy and quit doing it as much. The lemon juice is suppose to help dissolve stones.

No chocolate, peanut butter, or Potatoes. I’m gonna have to stop eating those items. It will be tough but if it keeps me from getting another stone, it will be worth it.

I take potassium citrate twice a day as well plus Allopurinol. It has certainly helped me. Had to cut way back on red meat.
Check with you Doc about taking the potassium citrate. Worked out wonders for me. You also have to adjust your diet.

Another thing that helps is a couple of tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar every day. The stuff is nasty but also good for controlling blood pressure.

Also, my doctor told me there were different types of stones and you should adjust your diet based on what type you have.

He said the type I had was probably caused by chocolate, peanuts, and tea among other things.

In general, lots and lots of water is the key. In general, if your primary beverage is water, it will go along way in helping your health in general. I know, I'm Captain Obvious. LOL!

Drinking a lot of water daily is the best defense against kidney stones. Most stones occur in the Summer months when it's hot and a lot of people don't drink enough water.

I had a stent put in as well and didn't realize how long it was before the nurse pulled it out. Looked like an accelerator cable pigtailed on both ends. I'm just glad I wasn't on vacation or out of town when my last one happened.

Congratulations on your berth.
Nothing, and i mean nothing, can make you pull carpet with your fingernails like a stone. (I've had a nice dozen)
What is said above about morphine only partially relieving an attack is hard to believe, but accurate.

I had a friend that passed seven stones the size of peanuts one summer. I cannot imagine something like that. Another kid that I played HS baseball with was out for about two weeks with stones. They x-rayed his kidneys and the doctor said it looked like he swallowed a pack of BB's.

Really hate to hear the misery some of us have endured. Makes having a brain tumor and broken back here seem inconsequential. God bless all who have endured the unendurable.

Agree. That is the only way to keep them away. Although you can get dehydrated in winter as well. Water, water and more water.

When I had my first one, I thought I was going to die, the pain was incredible. I got two or three shots of Demerol, but I might as well have taken an aspirin, didn't help at all. Spent two days in the hospital & I finally passed it. About a year later, I had another, but since I knew what to expect, it was nothing, I shot it out like a champ. Somebody told me cranberry juice could help with stones, but I don't know if that's factual or not.

Last one hit me as I was driving to a dental appointment in Dallas. My left arm started hurting and I began to sweat profusely. Thought for sure I was having a heart attack or stroke when I started getting a "pulling" pain in my groin area. Pulled over in a Hobby Lobby parking lot and threw up. Headed straight to the Emergency Room and I threw up about 15 times when I was laying on the table. Didn't stop until they shot me up with a pain killer. Worst pain I've ever had.

They diagnosed ny stones and they were caused by excessive red meat. Which was I mainly ate. Was hard but I had to cut back if it meant no more stones.
They are just excruciating pain. Once had to have two stints put in. Just misery.

I'd advise anyone who has to deal with kidney stones to have them diagnosed to see what is causing them to form. It really helps to find out so your Doc can figure out how to treat them.

Had one attack on an airplane. Got home and couldn’t even walk from the car to the house.

My second attack was so bad I passed out from the pain after throwing up a few times. I cannot imagine anything hurting worse.
