Kick and punt returns

In the absence of having a great kick and punt returner (and we have had some great ones), a lot of things can go wrong when returning kicks and punts, very infrequently good things happen, and rarely do great things happen. So, I kinda get the fair catch mentality. Am I wrong?

that doesn’t explain his punt returners running away from the ball and giving up ridiculous amounts of field position.

Josh Youngblood is a great case study. Big 12 special teams player of the year, first team all American in a few spots as a freshman. Averaged 36 yards a return with 3 td’s. Comes here and does nothing
