The thing that does kinda suck is we can likely no longer redshirt Shrader. He’s now #2 on the depth chart with Mayden out for the suspension, and was probably ahead of Mayden even without that consideration.

We could still do it if Stevens stays healthy and keeps his helmet on. We have Schrader and Maden available for 4 games each while still maintaining Schrader's RS and also have Logan Burnett available. If we can make it through Auburn without having to use anybody but Stevens and Burnett, then we have at most 8 games left and can split backup snaps between Schrader and Maden. Even if we have to use Maden or Schrader some against Auburn, we have the Abilene Christian game at the end of the year where if disaster happened, we could presumably let Burnett play the whole game and just run it down their throats.

What stinks is there will hopefully be significant mop up duty in the first two games that could provide great experience for Maden and/or Schrader, but I'm not sure you can afford to utilize it unless you are good with burning Schrader's redshirt.

Just when I thought you couldn't be more ignorant...you prove me wrong on that point.

My posts about KT, TS and the QB competition are easy to look up...thus easy to prove you are wrong and a nitwit.

Yes, I did say I think LSU or aTm could be candidates for KT. I gave my reasons, not based on estrogen emotions, unlike you. Though KT has not yet shown consistent passing ability in college yet, he was a 4 star QB out of HS who put up impressive passing stats in HS. Maybe he didn't get enough of the kind of coaching he needed to be better. It's not as if Dak was tearing it up as a passer under Dan.

We all know Dan is a run-first QB guy.

Also noticed you conveniently made no mention of my post in this thread about KT not likely having much of a shot at UF due to who they have on their roster.

ETA - KT has played 3 complete games. TS has not played a single one. Your analogy is complete garbage. And I defended my positions with reason and stats. You defended yours with lies & misquotes.

You can't redshirt Shrader if Thompson does wind up leaving (he's not gone yet & Moorhead is supposedly meeting with him today). He's the #1 if Stevens gets injured and presumably the #1 next season anyway. You've got to get him all the experience you can as quickly as you can.

Normally I would disagree, but with with our OL, RB and WR group I think he might actually live through the season.

I think Moorhead and has done a good job of reinforcing our OL so I think we do survive 2020 now, however the next big 'peak' years are going to be 2021 and 2022. We lose a ton after that so I do not really care whether Shrader redshirts or not. He's probably out after 2022 no matter what.

That's some serious 4 year projection right there hahaha.

Really? I don’t see how that’s even possible.

Me either.

I'd say before the end of the second full practice where Coach Moorhead got to witness KT's passing skills, he knew he'd need to get a better passing QB.

Additionally, KT does not carry himself like a starting QB. He's too meek and mild-mannered. (I'm basing this only on the interviews I've seen. I don't personally know KT, and I could be completely wrong.)

In my opinion, we want a starting QB that exudes confidence, motivates his teammates to give supreme effort and regularly throws catchable passes.

How often do teams lose their starting QB for more than 8 games of a season? Certainly not rare, and it's something you want to be prepared for, but it's not such a certainty that you have to burn a players RS b/c of the expectation that it will happen. And honestly, if Stevens goes down with more than 8 games to go, I'm not sure a few series at the end of blowouts is going to make a meaningful difference in how painful it is to have a true freshman QB leading the team.

If Schrader is likely the #1 next year, then trying to RS him is arguably sacrificing some next year for 2023, which is maybe a fool's errand in college football because of all the uncertainty between now and then (Schrader goes pro after 4 years anyway, get's injured for his 5th year, or you lose out on a sure fire prospect b/c he doesn't want to sit behind Schrader for Schrader's RS Jr. and RS Sr years when he would have been wiling to sit behind him his Sr. year, etc.). But having a good QB is such a big deal, I think it's at least something to consider in order to get an extra year of a good QB.

If we do burn Schrader's RS b/c of the expectation he is a starter next year, I think Moorhead needs to do more than get him garbage time like KT got last year. Bring him in much earlier in the blowouts and hopefully get him some snaps in SEC competition also. It's not worth burning a RS for experience if you are just going to use him like KT was used last year.

Uh, there is no way on God’s Green Earth that Keytaon Thompson becomes the starting QB at a school like Florida, LSU, Auburn, or the like.

You’ll likely see him at a La tech, La Monroe, Cincinnati, Tulane, Western Ky, etc. He might start at a UAB, South Alabama, or Arkansas State but no way he starts at an SEC school.

I don't think KT is going to start at any of those schools because I doubt he's going to go anywhere that he doesn't have a very clear path to being a starter. He's leaving b/c he wants to play and he only gets one chance. If he can't win at the next place, it's a lower division or relying on a waiver. But I don't think it's outlandish that KT would start at one of those schools. Joe Burrow was not exactly a superstar before going to LSU. And he's being backed up by Myles Brennan. We're not very far removed from Sean White being the starter at Auburn. There are opportunities for him to start if he is willing to risk ending up on the bench again.

Actually, I guess if he transferred now and RS'd, he'd still be able to do a graduate transfer without sitting out next year if he took care of his classes and ended up not winning the job?

I posted in the depth chart thread, but KT is not listed on the chart for this game....of course there was also the rumor that he would be suspended for Game 1 for rules violations (not for tutorgate).

You don't hire a new head coach based upon the players you currently have on your roster. You look to the future.

If you are hiring an OC, I think you want someone who can both work with your existing players and build for the future....Joe seemed to believe his offense was adaptable to the players we had, and he probably convinced everyone else of that. I now have my doubts whether that was accurate.

LOLOL you just said KT could beat out Mond

When you're done playing with the L & O keys, try taking a look at what Mond did his first games vs P5 teams with significant playing time (in his case as the starter, getting all the starter reps, and compare that to KT who came into the Egg Bowl as the backup, then against a good Louisville team in a bowl game we prepped for without benefit of the coaching staff KT had played for all up until that point.

I'll give you a hint. In Mond's first, he completed 17.6% of his passes with 0 TD's and a QBR of 31 vs a ****** UCLA team. Mond's 2nd vs P5 was vs another ****** team...UPig. Although his stats were better, he still completed a lower % of his passes vs them than KT did vs a much better Louisville.

Mond had a decent year last year, but he was also in his 2nd full season as the starter, getting all those starter reps, etc. Mond's first year as a starter was poor, with a ton of aTm fans calling for him to be replaced. He completed just 51.5% on the season. Now look at KT's only other game as a starter...the first of the JoMO era. It was clear as day that Joe had decided we were gonna pass a ton, no matter what, vs a team with no chance to beat us. Despite KT averaging 10.9 YPC in that game, Joe had him run just 10 times vs 31 pass attempts.

Those 31 pass attempts represent 40% of KT's pass attempts in all 3 games he played combined. That game was also his lowest completion % by far, so it brought his overall passing stats down significantly. Hardly seems fair to judge him harshly for that. For that matter, that one game represented 30% of KT's pass attempts for every game he's played in his college career combined. Again I say, it seems overly harsh to judge the kid's potential as a passer based in large part on his performance in a single game that should be looked at skeptically. 31 pass attempts vs 10 rush attempts in Joe's first game is an outlier.

The idea that KT, if given the same opportunity as Mond was given, would have no chance at all to beat out Mond by next season is something I just have to disagree with. Mond has one not very good year as a starter and one good one. Let's see how he does this year to see if he's just gotten better with practice, or if last year was his high-water mark.

Sometimes it boils down to luck and opportunity. Had Tony Romo not got injured again, nobody is talking about what a great selection Dak was for the Cowboys.

ETA - In Dak's first two complete games vs P5 teams he didn't do so well either, completing 41.2 and 53.6% in 2 losses. Guess we're fortunate the coaching staff didn't use those games to decide Dak could never be an SEC-caliber QB. I'm not saying KT would be the next Dak...just that some of you are way too quick to pull the trigger.

Have you people saying stuff like this actually seen KT play? KT isn’t very good. LaTech or a lower tier school would probably fit him but not UF, LSU, etc...[/QUOTEIf we had judged Dak the same way we have KT in so few games, Dak might have been replaced after the AU game his first year as a starter.

You're right. My memory must be failing me ... must've been thinking of the Stephen F. Austin game. Performing well in that game isn't quite as impressive as against Kansas State.

Same people who were calling for Fitz to be benched are the ones saying KT is better than Felipe Franks or Kellen Mond.

Simply questioning the football IQ is being generous.

If you're including me, I was not among those calling for Fitz to be benched, nor have I claimed KT is better than Mond. But I have suggested, with the same coaching & opportunity I would not be surprised if KT could beat out Mond at aTm because KT's performances in virtually complete games is on a par or better than Mond's first. I also explained my reasoning includes that Mond was not very good his first year. He was pretty good last year, but is it because he just, "got it", improved on his own, or because the coaching was just better, (maybe some combination)?

Either way, if KT got the same coaching and opportunity there, why are some of you so certain he could not realize the same or more improvement? It's not as if KT was some scrub recruit. In fact, both were 4-stars, with KT ranked by 247 as the #3 DT QB in the nation, while Mond was #7.

Not seeing how your comment applies at all. Seems you may be fishing here with no bait. That, or I really just don't get it. How was my referenced reply indicative of someone needing to be on anti-depressants?

I asked if he was referring to me because I was the one who brought up KT having a shot to beat out Mond.

I doubt KT is gonna get many offers and expect him to return. But I wish him luck and he was a highly touted dual threat qb. Not sure why he hasn't progressed but apparently the coaches of our team and soon we will know of other teams don't think he has what it takes. I hope he stays but Mayden has already been redshirted and unless he is suspended will be a decent back up. It's not the end of the world. We have 2 back up QBs not including GS that can come in the game. Relax and let the professional coaches sort this out. No one on this board knows the whole story

95% of your posts are indicative of someone who is unbalanced and in need of medication.

Only seems that way to someone with a relatively low IQ or self-esteem issues. I tend to really aggravate the hell out of morons who aren't used to people fighting back against their bullying. I pegged you as a functional idiot the first day I saw your posts.
