It's hate week against the worthless Clowns. Kirk is working to get that final win to get him over the hill to claim the record of winningest coach in the B1G. Historically, this game will decide if we have a good season or a bad one.

Key to the Game: There's only one key to beating them: stop their golden boy, Rocco. You stop him, you effectively stop their entire offense. Iowa will always beat the worthless Clowns when it comes to line play. We'll also stop their subpar run game. Last year, our defense did a great job rattling Brecht and forcing him to make bad decisions. They couldn't move the ball, even with their "best wide receivers in the world" during the first half. We'll have to bring the heat every down and make him uncomfortable.

What to look for: The worthless Clowns will look to throw early and often. Expect deep balls very early in the game. Campbell knows that Iowa isn't a team that's built to play from behind. They will do what they can to score as quickly as possible. If Iowa goes down by more than one score, the game will be over. Whether the worthless Clowns want to admit it or not, their WR room took a hit and isn't as good as last year's.

Offensive plan: Run down a ************'s throat will be the game plan. The game was taken out of Mark's hands last week, so I expect little to no passing this week. He won't fix what happened last Saturday in a single week, especially in front of 50K people who hate him. So it will be on the shoulders of our young RB room to get it done.

I think you're right. Going after Becht is the key. Keeping pressure on him from the first play is vital. If Phil plays his standard defense, it's gonna be a long, long day of watching ISU run up the score. The only chance Iowa has is to aggressively go after the QB and blitz more often than Phil ever has. I'm not sure that he's ready to do that, so I hope he surprises me, because without pressure on Becht, it's game over.

They're going to use their TEs a lot and force our LBs to cover them in space. Their TEs are better than ours currently. They'll stack the box and force us to throw more than we want to, so when we do throw, we better make it hurt them a lot. Our DL must contain the QB and not allow him to improvise effectively when plays break down.

We cannot be predictable in our play calling and we must run the ball effectively even against a crowded box. If we do decide to blitz and pressure them, we better get home and get to the QB. If we let them operate with no pressure they'll just pick us apart.

All that being said, I still like the Hawks in this matchup.

Yeah, that makes sense. I cheer for the Hawks no matter what. Being a fan is being fanatical and passionate about your team. But loyalty doesn't mean willful blindness. The offense and QB situation has been a sh**show for too long.

If Iowa wins it will mean some serious coaching has happened between week 1 and week 2 and key players stepped up. (and most likely ISU found a new way to piss down their leg). That's the only way the Iowa team we saw last week will beat the ISU team we've seen the last 2 weeks. It can happen and it would be glorious to take down the clones in their house again. I'm just not seeing it.

Keys. Be yourself and stop trying to out squawk the squawks, we are not a power running team and never will be. Throw the ball early, the flats will be open, the deep ball will be open. The Squawk defense is a shadow of what it was a couple of seasons ago, do not fall into the trap of running it right at them. Make their inexperienced LB run and chase RB out of the backfield and TE down the field.
ISU has the better team, use the advantages you have. The Oline must be ready for the squawks to stunt on defense, much like KSU did and SD tried to do. Stay at home and give the man off to the tackle as he tries to work outside and then pick up the DE or backer that will be moving into that open area. Give Rocco time to burn them, or dump it off to a TE and let them chase.

ON Defense, crowd the LOS, they have one of the worst WR and TE cores we will face all year, we are stopping the run, and then stopping the run. Make them throw the ball, stop the run, is the plan. If we get beat over the top, fine, we are stopping the run.

Do not go into a shell, when you have the better talent, you take the game to them, and force them to make mistakes, Rocco needs to be himself and not be Purdy and give the game away with a silly play or two. Throw the ball.

The plan is simple do not turn it over, setting up their offense and watch as the squawks are leaving in droves by the end of the 3rd quarter, still talking smack but leaving none the less. Make it clear to their band director that their half *** band leaves the field the same NE corner as the squawk team does, he couldn't figure that out last time, so you might have to remind him more than once.

Iowa has better than a puncher’s chance at winning this weekend, but it won’t be because Ferentz plays it straight up expecting to dominate the trenches. That isn’t going to happen so the hawks must take chances to win. The line is 3 points for a reason. Clones have significantly more weapons than the hawks do so ISU has a much larger margin for error, which you saw in last year’s game as the door was cracked open and the Clones took the game.

The evidence would say you're right. Lots of people are ignoring reality right now, because it's ugly. I don't blame them, but any objective analysis suggests Iowa is not only likely to lose, but lose big. I don't say that because I want to. I say that because that's how it looks. ISU has a talented passer. Iowa doesn't. Iowa has an inexperienced defense, especially at D-back and LB, and Becht and Campbell know how to take advantage, especially if Phil Parker stubbornly refuses to blitz the hell outta Rocco. Let that kid sit back there and throw, and it'll be a disaster.

I hope Iowa wins. I'll be cheering for the Hawkeyes as always. But I have little faith after years of KF's malfeasance with the QBs and the offense. And Lester's Shanahan offense? I'll believe it when I see it. Expect the worst and hope for the best is my advice.

I don't think you understand how things work. People are entitled to their opinions, and those of us who see little chance for Iowa to win on Saturday have most of the evidence on our side. We don't WANT Iowa to lose. We just don't see how they can win given what they showed last week--44 yards passing would have been pretty good around 1921, a century later, it's another national embarrassment. Although it's true the Hawkeyes were battling the mighty Albanies who, BTW, play their home games in an 8,500-seat stadium. For reference, Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids seats 15,000.

Anyway, please feel free to keep posting here, no matter what happens in Ames on Saturday. I know I will.

Mistakes were made by ISU in the first half. The Clones took over in the 2nd half when good teams show their mettle. Had we played from the kickoff, Kinnick would have emptied out in Q4. But Playing one of our worst games of the year and still winning, made for a fun day. The last second kick was a thing of beauty.

Then why didn’t we win last year? Our QB at some point in the game is going to have to make a play. Cade made the huge mistake last year when we were up 14-3 (I believe that was the score) and we also were cute around the goal line. We’re going to need a minimum 24 pts I’d say to win it. I think Brecht is good, not great, but he’s been pretty good in the clutch. He was doing absolutely nothing until the Cade pick. We might certainly lose, and probably will if Gronowski is 1 dimensional, but I certainly don’t see the Clones running all over us.
