Would he ever be an option as HC? Don't tell me he's never been a college HC, because he's recruited much better players than anybody at Rutgers. He's got every local tie you could want.

Sure, but not here, not now, sorry. Great option as a "recruiting coordinator/assistant coach" type of position, however, and apparently he has been reached out for something as such by someone already.

I honestly think Kevin could get the job done.

I also have thoughts that he would be our Gerry Faust.

Too much of a gamble. How many Power 5 schools have ever hired a high school coach and were they successful.

I would offer Boyle double his salary in Florida to be a assistant coach at Rutgers regardless who is hired as head coach. He has the recruiting contacts nationwide and his teams have been national high school powers.Rutgers can't recruit and that won't change by just changing head coaches.A difference maker is required and he would be a excellent assistant to Sendek and later down the road ,the choice to be head coach at Rutgers. Its the right process to turn the program around.

Rice tried hiring boyle his salary demands were way higher than top assistants get since he couldnt do his own camps. They are a cash cow.

Her gets 130k, a car, and a house plus his outside opportunities (ie. camps, shoe deal, etc...)
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/high-school/montverde-success-boyles-coach-article-1.1747107

We would need to offer him a minimum of $500-750k as an asst head coach. Rutgers may only be able to pay in the 500-600k range and Boyle would be here 2 years max before he gets a head coach gig at an A10 / BE type school.

To compare - Fridge was paid $500 k as asst HC for Flood. Rossi was making 300k at one point as an asst.

Yes, on the record.

Since Politi doesn't like Boyle, but prefers the Hurley family (I don't know the history), I am surprised he agreed to write the scoop. It's a brilliant move by Hobbs. We. WILL. BE. DANCING. WITHIN. 4 YEARS.

"Kyrie, here, can you call this MCDonald's PG who is on the fence?"

I don't understand why anybody doesn't see this as genius. You have an internationally renowned coach who has led one of the toughest academic schools in the country to 3 straight national titles? Is the #1 recruiter internationally?

Hobbs is very, very impressive AD.
Genius first 2 hires.

How is a Politi opinion piece considered a confirmed hire?

The OP is the same individual who a number of years ago predicted that Pat Sullivan would become the next RU basketball coach. Sullivan was a solid former Univ of North Carolina player from Bogota, NJ. It was, of course, a preposterous suggestion. Take whatever the OP has to say with that in mind.

Sulkivan was also the women's basketball coach at a D2 school in North Carolina at the time. Very bizarre. I take everything he says with at least 4 grains of salt.

It would be the ultimate swipe or snub of the Hurley's snubbing of RU, if he actually hired Boyle and he brought recruits in tow. There is a small percentage of me that believes it would signal a true change at RU, not because I hold any grudges towards Danny or the Hurley's, they made the decision that was best for them. At the same time, if Boyle brought recruits with him and led RU to the levels of NIT or better in a couple of years, there is a small grain of satisfaction that I would have if it happened with Boyle......not that it matters who does it for RU, as long as it gets done....

actually it is....if you captured 2 or 3 top 100 kids, you are on your way.....Boyle is grass roots...as I get older and all of my friends and their kids are going through AAU world, his name still carries weight in NJ in the cores of the states basketball centers and gyms around the area.

I am all about whatever it takes to win and this is sooo far out of bounds, that it works for me in my comfort zone....and is 100X more logical than Williams, if you are going outside the box....

its all about recruiting. He may do it better in NJ than almost anyone we can hire.

I am very worried about lack of experience in college though. the B1G is not on the same planet as St Peters. He would have to get a pretty experienced staff.

So Boyle is who we've been waiting for and who we will all be happy about? Yikes.

It would probably piss the hurleys off though...so there's that.

Boyle is known to be associated with some very shaky activities which is why he never got a college gig. You can do much better. The only candidate inferior to Boyle is Williams.

Id be happy with Boyle as long as he gets a top notch older assistant to help him mentor him...not just an average coach. The money Hobbs will save on Boyles salary can go to his lead assistant. Hey Gary Williams come on down.

the best part is this roster might not blow up and Boyle might be able to get a guy or two this year

I'm all for Boyle. You know he's likely to take a couple of short cuts, but he'll bring in players right away.

He just needs to make sure they all keep their noses clean while he turns this program around.
