quickley or richards would be the safer picks but if i already got herro and bam i’m taking maxey. could be an elite level penetrating guard with size to take contact. they have nunn also who doesn’t have maxey’s strength. would be better dynamic option/dynamic. richards and bam would be pretty cool and quickley would obviously be a sniper at backup pg.

I mean can somebody actually tell a GD big man this? Or their parents? How have we not got a top 5 big man in 5 years with quotes like this from NBA coaches? What the hell are our recruiters saying?

The heat have thee 23rd pick. Maxey might not be on the board when they get there. It does bode well for quickley or richards.

If you see them trade up to get another late first round pick it might mean really good things for our guys.

you’re probably right. maxey has remained high on the draft boards. richards is a pretty safe pick at that range. no way he should be 2nd round.

They’re likely in a bad spot at 23, if the draft board’s have any credibility. All the ones I have seen have Maxey long gone by 23 (a slight mystery to me, either he’s simply a lot better than I perceive or it’s a really weak draft), while none of the others are close to being in play that early.

Yeah, Cal whiffing on all the elite bigs, year after year, is mind boggling. It’s very surreal actually. Just doesn’t make sense.

Yeah, I mean, it’s not exactly the 8th wonder of the world, but it’s certainly a real curiosity. Some guesses:

1. Other schools are cheating/paying kids. Not naive, I know this happens, hard to believe it explains every miss.

2. Other schools are bad-mouthing UK/Cal. No doubt this happens, too.

3. By now, 5 stars simply assume they will get drafted, and there’s no difference in the way Cal develops and any other school/coach. Despite comments like these from Spoelstra.....I think this is the primary reason. It’s just not necessary, so why go to Kentucky and get screamed at (vs coddled) and have to share minutes and shots with other 5s.
