Besides the NIL and getting players paid. Cal will get that figured out

It's time we use NIL to recruit outside guys that understand they won't get playing time, BUT guarantee them time and NIL at one of our feeder farm team, couple years they come to Kentucky.

So we take our guy at central Michigan and get him 4 star 3 star guys that are not ready now but could or will be tough College players. Pay them, learn their craft and skill somewhere we trust. Then transfer once ready to get exposure and nba level practices coaching etc.

Buy them
Stash them
Bring them once ready

Rinse and repeat year after year

Only way to survive as I see it.

Depends how they fit in. So far grad transfers are a failure in my book starting with Julius Mays onward. We’ve had literally one guy produce, Reid Travis. So I’m not gonna hang my hat on that yet either

Or we could just let several hundred mid-major players battle it out and take the Kellan Gradys who emerge via transfer. Wouldn't that be a hell of a lot more efficient?
No. This works as basically loaning the player out. Why fight it out with all the other schools when you can buy him early and be yours later. Yes there's an understanding he won't transfer somewhere else but damn there's got to be some integrity on both the player and school.

Take a nick Richards. Everyone knew he was a project. Loan him out and he comes in his junior year or sophomore year if he's ready. We keep Kentucky loaded with talent and we don't use a scholarship. Or we need room and we send a kid to our farm system to make space.

These are scholarship players who technically are not on our books. Take 2 to 3 project players a year and bring them in once ready. We always will have quality players on standby regardless how that years recruiting turns out or quality of recruits.

This post is pointless so you even pay attention to the UK roster? He’s already bringing in guys to develop and add depth. Cal is signing or bringing in one or two long term project players a year already so this post is pointless that’s about all the room you have for developing players. We had Toppin, Fletcher and Ware last year and Hopkins this year and Fredrick is a multi year guy as well. You do realize you can only have 13 scholarships and can’t have 25 guys ?

Ok same difference. Last good transfers were Heshimu Evans and Derek Anderson. Needless to say I’m not holding my breath.

Can you name a transfer that’s been great under Calipari? I’ll hang up and listen.

Let other schools develop him. That's kind of a Coach's job and why they have 13 players on roster

You can't own or rent players and this pitch makes no sense, @MdWIldcat55 is right, just take the best grad transfers that are available every year. By doing that, you're getting kids from other power 5 programs, not some mid major program where the pool of players you’re looking at is extremely limited.

The bottom line here is, if you can get a Sharpe or a Lively (both would be great), you're ahead of the game, after that, just keep grabbing the best transfers at each position and try like hell to retain as many guys off the previous roster as you can.

Stop recruiting the 4 and 5 star kids that are not top shelf that only plan on staying here 1 or 2 years whether they're ready or not.

This will require Cal to change the culture at UK and more importantly, his craving for draft picks. Just develop the players to win games at UK and if they're ready to go to the NBA, fine, but losing players to the GL and overseas after only 2 years, is counter productive.

I have no clue only to add my opinion more and more lifelong Ky fans will care less , and less , and less . Season ticket holder for football , but hoops has lost its charm with me . 5 decades of passionate cheering , but I'm ready for a change , it just isn't Cal. or Ky , college hoops is a declining product at the moment .

Ummmm Mintz was literally our best player just last season. Cal hasn’t really brought in a transfer to play a major role, outside of maybe Travis, Mays and Mintz. There’s not a big enough sample size to make a clear cut analysis. After this season, that will change.

Sarr was the most disappointing transfer we have had under Cal, IMHO. Soft as tissue. Hope Tshiebwe isn’t the next can’t miss big man transfer to be vastly overrated.

Damn, I forgot all about Sarr! Not sure how that happened. I guess where he was almost irrelevant in comparison to the hype he brought. In any event, I agree.

So did everyone last year once he played in a game. I think Jared Carter would have done more with Starr’s minutes.

He was rather forgettable.

It makes me wonder just how different the conferences are. Sarr was an All-Conference performer in the ACC and a non-factor in the SEC.

I hope Tshiebwe fares better. Different style player. More physical in a little more physical conference (Big 12) than the ACC. Maybe his game translates better to the SEC.

Also, Tshiebwe played for a winner (WVU) while Sarr played for a loser (Wake). I think that makes more of a difference than people realize.

Also, Cal actually recruited Oscar out of high school and really wanted him. OTOH, I don’t think he would’ve recruited Sarr out of high school. I think there’s a difference there, if that makes sense.

You can argue against it until you're blue in the face. Loaning players is common in other countries. Why have nick Richard be pulled for every mistake when he can play a lot more and develop. 13 players who are all ready to contribute is far better than 7 with 6 still learning. Pretty simple. We open our pool of players up each year and not have to worry about recruiting misses or having to battle out 1000 other schools in the portal. We can buy them and now with new rules we can loan them and bring them in without having to sit a year.

Sarr was terribly misused .. he was a face to the basket player . Cal tried to use him like he was Shaq . Being played out of position killed him.
Yup, he did the same thing to Skal, who was also a face up forward. Cal tried to force them to be something they were never going to be.

Offense-in-a-box, one size fits all. Cal obviously loved him some 1985 Georgetown Hoyas basketball, because that's his offense and he runs it no matter who he has down low.

I'm starting to wonder if he knows what a modern offense is, although he should, everyone we play has a modern offense.
