Well, that’s nice of Cal to say because he can’t certainly tell him to kiss his butt. Lol. But I don’t want another Cal-Barnes relationship here. Cal better look to crush KP every single time.

That job would have been there later on. Why the heck would KP want to step into that dumpster fire for his first HC gig? His HC career may be over before it starts. SMH. Happy for KP, but I don't think it's the smartest move on his part.
Me either honestly but it would be hard to not accept your first gig at your alma mater and a relatively big job. It is in bad shape with more to come though so maybe he will use it to go somewhere else if it doesn’t work out. I’d love to see him back on staff at some point. He was good for us here.

Suppose Wagner would do his former teammate a real solid by having his kid go there, but being a mega star at UK is a much better business decision ... and it's not like Cal is a fallback. He was supposed to play for Cal since he was born. I'm guessing this will be a tough family decision now.
Still have to remember his father played for Cal not Payne. I’d respect my dads wishes first and foremost.

U6 fans have already coined the phrase "House of Payne". They have also heard rumblings of KP reaching out to Skyy Clarke.

They think they're suddenly relevant.
Good I’d love Clarke to go there so we can crush him and show him what he missed. They have tons of PT available but a terrible team so who knows. It’s late to recruit for next year, I assume he will fill most of the roster they the portal.

He will absolutely go there. Payne is family to him
Why do so many people FORGET what Cal did for DJ’s father, DeJaun????

Cal’s insistence that DJ’s Dad enter the NBA Draft when he did(before his medical issues) made DeJaun and in turn his entire family enough money to live on from then on.

Heck, Milt sent DeJaun to Memphis to play for Cal when they were UofL’s biggest rival.

KP was just a Freshman when Milt was a Senior. They weren’t together but one season in Louisville.

My fear. And I believe it’s real.
You people put waaaaaaay too much into this Kenny Payne/Milt Wagner connection. They played together one year in college. The Calipari/DeJuan Wagner, Sr. connection is much much stronger than the one DJ's grandpa has with Kenny. Y'all need to stop pushing the panic button on this.

I don't know for sure about Wagner, but I wouldn't bank on the NCAA hammering them being the reason he wouldn't go there.
The NCAA is so inconsistent/prone to dragging their feet that I kind of doubt any punishment that UofL might be hit with will be handed down before he's ready to make a commitment.

They could also end up getting off with a relative slap on the wrist.
They got caught paying a player while on probation. The NCAA HAS to hit them hard or EVERYONE will know how much of a joke they are. They have to or they signed their death warrant quicker than it would likely be.

He’s a Card to the bone. I never understood him being on our staff. No one with a UofL connection should ever be on our bench or sideline. I’ll look forward to hating him and hoping he loses every game. Eff Louisville.
Y’all always gotta do the most 😂

I think you are correct, he could do well with transfer but I hope not.

Also, how is Louisville affording all of this? They are broke.
There is TONS of money people and corporations in this town that will see KP gets whatever he needs to be successful and weather the storm that's coming, if there actually is one.

Name them. They are paying like a hundred coaches. Show me a link that says Louisville isn’t broke.

Just like they did for Chris Mack.

That worked out swimmingly.

The university athletic dept budget may be in trouble, but between the corporate folks and rich alumni there is plenty. Places like UPS, Ford , GE. Planet Fitness guys and many others will step up.

Why do people keep getting this mixed up. Wagner’s grandfather, not father, is the one who played with Kenny Payne…for one year when he was a senior and KP was a freshman.

Milt actually worked for Cal for 6 years at Memphis and then worked under Barber (another Cal guy) at UTEP and Auburn for 8 years.

His dad’s loyalty is with Cal as he played for and considers Cal family. Hell, his step brother is on the team right now.

It's a new day and one of their own has come home. Look, I happy KP is getting paid, but I wish him very limited success and you need to face reality .
I'm happy he's getting paid, but Louisville isn't going to be relevant for several years under Payne, if ever.

Seems like you're the one who needs to face reality.

A lot of people are posting how they "Just can't hate KP", (I don't wanna hate him either) but IF he goes to our most bitter rival and swipes someone like Wagner/starts beating us for recruits, I imagine that would sour the majority of BBN on him pretty quickly.

Selfishly I hope he flames out at Louisville and goes on to kill it elsewhere.
It's a business and money talks. It'll mean a lot more to Payne and ex U6 paylers that played for Crum. He'll get plenty of buffer.

What is our record for landing recruits when another team hires one of their family members? Also, MJ has said multiple times, adamantly even, that DJ will be at Louisville if they get Kenny.

Man I don't wanna hate KP but I guess it's time
Actually, I think maybe KP can bring a level of civility to the rivalry. I mean UL/U6 is clearly the inferior program. But here is nothing wrong with being inferior to the #1 program of All-Time. IMO, as long as UL/U6 fans aren't a-holes then we can co-exist.

Proofs always in the pudding. Like l said, I'm glad he's getting paid, but wish him no luck. Having had a couple of interactions with him, he's a very nice guy.

You can bank that.
Possible? Sure.
Likely? I don't think so.
I would put more in what Cal did for his Dad than what relationship is grandpa has w/ KP.
Add to that the dumpster fire that is U6, will they even have a team, or be on TV, or be able to play in the NCAA, or have the talent to earn a trip to the NCAA?
But in the end, I think what young Wagner wants to do, and the relationship HE builds with the staff is as much a role as who his dad or grandpa like. But sure, this get UL/U6 "in the door" maybe even "in the living room" where Cal is already "sitting at the kitchen table".

Probably zero. It another school hires a family member how can UK or any school compete with that?

See this is my question. Is Kenny expected to add Milt Wagner on his staff? If not then I understand people thinking we shouldn't worry about DJ Wagner playing for Louisville.

If Milt is hired to be on his staff though I think it's pretty wild to still consider DJ a "lock". I don't care how close Dajuan Wagner relationship is with Cal. Silly to think it's impossible to think DJ wouldn't consider the school that has his granddad on the staff.
