A head coaching Job at a D1 school in the ACC is a very prestigious Job. Kenny isn't getting any younger and NOBODY ever sets a goal ceiling of just ASST.Coach.

I think with not knowing what will happen with the ncaa and sanctions because of all the crap that has happened at UL that whoever takes the job needs to have it written into the contract that they cannot be fired for at least 5 years. Cause depending on what happens it might take that long to get this mess fixed at their school.

There was a lot said this week around UL about at least "speaking" to a person of color about the head coaches job.
Lot of old Black players who still reside in Louisville and have businesses have voiced their strong opinion about its time for UL to hire someone Black.
With everyone in world knowing Mack was their first choice, this is what it is, a token stab at pleasing some voices in the room.

Kenny Payne would make a good coach. Can't say great till he proves himself in the top spot. There has been many great assistants who did not become great Head Coaches.
But for him not to see he was not their top choice?

Still think this is a move to please some who want to be heard.
Yes, a head coach in the ACC is a prestigious position, but starting from they are going to be is going to take someone special, someone who knows how to mend fences, coach, recruit, positive, thick skinned, and patience.

I think Kenny Payne could someone who could succeed at UL, but like someone said, he isn't getting any younger and the mess they got is not quick fix.
Griffith and Ellison ain't walking thru any doors soon there

U6 will have to go with an assistant coach from a power conference or someone like Mack. Not having a university president or AD would make me very hesitant. Plus the looming NCAA and FBI fallout.

I think without a doubt Kenny Payne could turn that thing around but I believe they only asked to interview him to satisfy Crums players from back in the day and that's a shame. That job should be his if he wants it.

This is a affirmative action interview- Jerry Eaves is pushing for a African American interview - waste of KP time - Mack is getting the job

Doesn’t matter if the fans want him or not, fans don’t make he higher and really don’t matter. They will come to the games anyway and buy merchandise. Donors and Alumni matter. Also like someone said, no one wants to be a assistant for ever and even with the future sanctions you take the job. You get Jews coaching money and a big buyout

Because Kenny Payne is going to leave the top paying assistant coach job in the nation to go be an assistant coach under Mack.
I thought the gist was this would be as HC instead of Mack. I definitely hope he doesn't take it but wouldn't fault him too much if he did. It's his alma mater 'n all and a name brand program. A tarnished name but Payne could clean it up as well as anyone could I'd think.

It has to be a tough choice waiting for the other shoe to fall regarding UL's FBI issues and what the NCAA will do if anything to the program.

Does Mack leave a school that is willing to give him a giant bump to go to UL and have to figure out how to win with what is probably a 5 year cloud of doom hanging over you?

The reality very well may be that by the time he can put a team together past the sanctions the fans will be tired of him leading them in losing beat downs in the ACC.

He could be looking to land a job at a school less than Xavier in 7 years.

UL is looking to hire a miracle worker. If I were Mack, I'd go see how well I can walk on water first
