Good lord man, you having fun on this crusade? I said SPURRIER was asked about the flag on the SC state capitol grounds. Read first, then spew. I've already said, more than once, in this thread that I wished Mullen had given a tougher answer. Like BleedMaroon said, I hope you are enjoying this today, and you better pray that the PC folks in the media don't take aim at Ole Miss because there are a looooot more skeletons in yall's closet.


ETA: I suppose I should've clarified, when I said "Spurrier was asked the same question," I meant Spurrier was asked about the flag in SC, Mullen was asked about the flag in MS. I thought you all would've been bright enough to figure that out for yourselves.

I'd like MSU folks to start saying MSU has the highest percentage of African-American enrollment of any SEC school rather than that it's the most diverse. I agree with all of you who feel that in context Mullen was using the word "diverse" to mean this, but it isn't what diverse really means, so it's incorrect to say so. I think it's probably also wrong to measure campus diversity simply by lowest white enrollment since being made up of only two groups isn't really diverse either even if you have a lot of whatever the minority group is. (I suspect that the schools that the Ole Miss posters in this thread were naming as ahead of MSU in diversity are truly more diverse.)

Mullen wanted to brag about State being further ahead than other SEC schools when it came to African-American enrollment. He's right about that. If I were guessing, I wouldn't be at all surprised if State also enrolls a high percentage of economically disadvantaged kids. As a State fan, I'm proud of those things and like the idea of State being a place that creates opportunities for the people of Mississippi. When you consider what rankings of state k-12 education tell us, that MSU still exceeds the national average in graduation rate in most sub-groups, according to the source I was looking at, there's quite a bit to be proud of as an institution.

When I went back to find it to respond, I came across collegeresults.org which makes MSU's results look at little less rosy, until you pay attention to who they consider peer institutions.

I think MSU's graduation rates are going to look weaker than a lot of other SEC schools until you stop and think about the differences in admission requirements at some of the schools.

I may be wrong here, but it sounded to me that Dan was referring to the Confederate flag in his answer, and not the State flag. I know the question was about changing the State Flag, but it sounded like Dan was addressing the Confederate Flag, which doesn't fly anywhere on the MSU campus, except maybe the KA house.

I also think Dan's answer was weak. Its not a big deal, but he knew he was going to be asked about it and he should have had a better prepared answer. I don't mind him trying to avoid the flag issue directly in order to avoid stepping on any toes, but his answer sucked.
