Keldon Johnson called up

How do you know Keldon didn't make the right choice? What if he develops faster than you think. He went to a great organization for his development. If he does get his 2nd contract he'll do it without having to waste a whole year player for the corrupt NCAA. He's gambling on himself. Nothing wrong that. Definitely not wrong just because some butthurt fans are whining that he didn't stay another year for their entertainment purposes. Get over yourselves.

Actually it was reported that Keldon signed for 7 million as a bonus. Will get roughly 4 million for his 1st two years and will almost certainly (as a first round pick) get the 1st team option year of around 2.2 million picked up..

So the ones claiming 14 million after 3 years in the league are most likely correct

That is most certainly false. There are no signing bonuses in the NBA.

His contract gets to almost 15 million if all team options are picked up and qualifying offers are extended. The only guaranteed years are this season and next. We’ll see what happens.

3.3 for the first 2 years then you start having team options I believe.

1.8 for the 3rd

3.5 roughly for the 4th

5.3 for the 5th year if its picked up.

5 years roughly 15 million. Even if he only plays 5 years that's enough to live comfortably unless you are stupid with your money. Don't be buying 10 family members Rolex watches. House and cars for parents, maybe a vacation for them. Friends and relatives, they better have their own sources of income. Don't be buying everyone's food when you go out just because your rich. Not your job to feed grown *** adults. Or pay their mortgages or any other crap like that.

Then I stand corrected. Could of swore I read that somewhere.

Yeah it was on a players wiki site back in the summer. The way the wrote the article, or the way I read it was a bit off.

I'd like to see the full list of first round picks that didn't get their team option picked up. The 2018 class had all 30 guys picked up.

Even if a guy is a disappointment, a few million for a rotation player with upside under full team control is an asset most teams keep for as long as they can.

Barring injury, being a headcase, or being a top 5 pick due in that $8 million range as a total bust, you're likely to see that full rookie contract. And if you get injured or were drafted that high, you made the right decision to come out anyway.

It’s “only” when compared to the 15 million that people are incorrectly throwing around.
In all honesty, would you pass that kind of guaranteed money away if someone offered it to you to do your dream job? Hell, any legal job for that matter? It's not like there was ever a guarantee of more....just the potential if a lot if things went right. And the risk for less.

People on here act like coming back guarantees that your stock will rise .

Often it just exposes more negatives in your game .
Too many people overlook this option. Duke and UNC players have notoriously came back and played their way down in the draft not improved their position. Who knows for sure whether Keldon would or would not have improved his draft stock.

As for his NBA salary, as stated above the first two years are guaranteed for first round picks which he was being drafted at 29. According to this web-site the nearly $4 million for the first two years are correct and over 5 years it could be nearly $16 million (15.8).

https://hoopshype.com/player/keldon-johnson/salary/

But he also signed a deal with Nike worth an estimated $5.1 million over 3 years (https://247sports.com/college/kentu...all-Keldon-Johnson-signs-with-Nike-134343965/). Not sure if that is guaranteed or how it works. However if the Nike money is guaranteed added to his first two years of guaranteed NBA money he is sitting on around $9,000,000 pre-tax. That is somewhere between the $4 and $14 million being bantered about.

Meh. If you’re guaranteed 1st round I can’t be mad. Keldon will make about $4 million no matter what. He could literally retire at 23 and live lavishly for the rest of his life and not have to work a single day.
Yep. I can never blame any player for taking the money when they can. I just hate the system.

Oh me too. I used to not but I am now starting too. I’m of the mindset if your guaranteed 1st round, particularly top 20, you go. You get those millions. Because at worst (top 20) youre gonna get $5 ish million guaranteed plus $2-$3 more million from endorsements (I think KJ got like $5 million or so)

But I still am getting tired and apathetic of the roster turnover every single year. It’s hard to really invest. I mean I get it, Cal/UK has to recruit the best the best but still. I’m left feeling blah sometimes.

Withiut looking it up I have a hard time believing the 29th pick in the draft got a $7 million signing bonus.

Is PJ a realistic blueprint for most kids? I suspect there’s no way to capture it or research it, but I wonder what the breakdown is for kids who have the option to leave and return for a second year. Some no doubt get better and improve their draft stock, but I have to think others are simply flawed players, and the longer you stay the more your warts are revealed.......

Quit trying to explain reality to the jock sniffers who think its always the smart move to take the first check , clearing about 2 million as opposed to setting your self up for several large paydays.
Next we need a financial genius to lecture me on how I'm some uneducated dummy ( I have 2 college degrees) and then say I'll never see that much money ( I have) . KJ went early , he cashed out and took a good paycheck . Whether that pans out to a real career in the NBA is still a huge question.

MD's been sitting on this thread for about 18 months. Absolutely hilarious!
I had a thread from early January of last year I was saving; where I posted that we would make a final four. I saved in for quite a while, hoping I could throw it back out there and see “I called that **** even when 90% of you knuckleheads said we sucked and we would be lucky to make the tourney.” Never came to be.

4 million that's 80k for 50 yrs. Not bad. If smart and invest well can live comfortable.
Yeah super comfortable especially if he moved to Kentucky and took advantage of all the opportunities he would have here. That could be a base living for most of his life plus whatever he earned in commercials, business he invests/starts, and whatever job he took.

Kansas State has been a much better football program than your bottom feeding squad. Who knows what’s gonna happen with KSU, but college sports are dead anyway, chump.
