Keith was All-Conference
A-10 POY
Best player on first RU team that was ranked since 1976 and last team to go to NCAA tourney prior to this recent streak.
He won regular season and conference tourney titles
Keith Hughes Wiki
His accomplishments should be only more appreciated given the struggles of the program that followed his years at RU.
Whippersnappers can watch this video to see the RAC in those days.
RU Hoops 90-91
The old farts were once just like you.
Keith was workmanlike, supremely gifted and importantly, a winner. While Rutgers has had flashier players and those who have had greater professional success, there are not many who have led successful teams at Rutgers and this should be celebrated and recognized.
We do not need to give trophies or honors to everyone; that is not the case here- he is literally the best player in our history over a 30 year period.
I think his legacy has suffered in part due to a stigma of being a transfer student and only having played for 2 years on the banks.
This seems quaint when viewed through the modern era or if you think about the impact he had on the program with the time he had here.
I don’t think there’s any shame in a NJ kid recognizing he made a mistake, coming home and becoming a Rutgers MAN.
You know my vote. What’s yours? Does Keith Hughes belong in the RU Athletics Hall of Fame?
