I think the NCAA is dropping the ball on this. There’s no reason not to have a selection show.

this...people are looking for an outlet, some hope and entertainment...give them at least something to look forward to. I get why they arent doing it, the 10 codgers who make up the selection committee do not want to be holed up in office for no reasons, but in reality I would say 65 of the 68 schools are pretty easy to pick, get them in a room to get the last 3 its not that hard to do it in a few hours.

I dont think I agree with the masses here. While in our case (RU) it certainly would be nice to hear our name called, there are lots of teams that think they would have gotten in that would find out they didnt. In addition, almost half of the bids are automatic from conference tourneys that never happened. You could "guess" that it would go to the conference leader but who knows.

RU got national press this year and will probably be the poster child next year for the tourney that didn't happen. I say just celebrate what was accomplished in 2019/2020 and let others worry about the accolades.

My assumption is that the NCAA does not want to award probabilities. It is easy to figure out the majority of the teams which would have made the tournament. However, there is no guaranty for the last 5-10 teams in consideration. In the absence of the actual completion of the confernece tournaments, there is no way to know how many upsets (if any) occur and whether they result in teams winning the conference tournament who would not otherwise have been considered for an at large bid. Without this infmoration, I understand why the NCAA is reluctant to account a field. I don't think anyone woudl have asked for a selection show if the season had been cancelled a month ago. This is rougly the same thing, just a lot closer to the finish line. If the conference tournaments were finished, I think the NCAA might have been inclined to announce the field.
