Am I the only one who thinks it’s odd that they’re making a group fundraise to add a sport? Or is it a Title IX thing that they cant spend more $$. Just seems quite confusing to me. Anyone have more info? Thanks!

Now that UNK has dropped the sport, there is a nice facility available for use.

Wonder if this hurts the Kearney track program?

I think it's a little weird, too. I guess I was under the impression that if a school wants to add a program/activity/sport, then they would fund it. If they raise this money to run the program for 5 years, what happens in Year 6? What's the money for? Just the initial start up--equipment, uniforms, etc.? Or for coaches salaries, travel. & tournament entry fees?

I always heard that many of the Kearney High track supporters have fought against adding baseball for 25+ years.....

Don't forget that the Bearcats won the Class A soccer championship this year, too. Adding programs is great for the kids, but can sometimes hurt a program's depth....

Had heard same thing that track program/supporters kept baseball from being a consideration.

Makes you wonder if Roger Mathiesen knew this was coming and led to him resigning before the season when he had a boy and girls team that could've easily won this year. The girls for sure should've won if Maessner didn't get hurt before districts. She was the favorite in the 100, 200 and long jump and didn't qualify in any, but still got to run the 400 relay and they won that.
